Wild Rock Pinot Gris 2016 (12x 750ml) Central Otago NZ

Bright, very pale straw colour with a suggestion of green hues, near colourless on edge. This has a fresh and firm nose with aromatic white stonefruits and notes of exotic florals and honeysuckle that build in intensity, revealing some underlying dive and power. Dry to taste, this has a refreshing and bright palate with a crisp, steely and positive line of white stonefruits, exotic florals and honeysuckle that form a tight core. The palate has definite textures, balanced by lively acidity, and the concentrated core carries to a lingering finish of stonefruits and lifted florals. This is a tightly concentrated, lively dry Pinot Gris with exotic stonefruit, floral and honied flavours, on a fine-textured, refreshing, linear palate. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3 years.

Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2016 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River, WA

Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2016 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River, WA

Lot No: 0033-2477233

Vintage

The vines enjoyed a near perfect growing season, with warm, dry spring weather and relatively light wind conditions prevailing along the Margaret River coast. The summer conditions were nice and warm without excessive heat, until a curveball arrived during 18 to 20 of January with a rare weather event for this time of the year occurring. This resulted in 80mm of rain falling over the region, which was a timely watering from Mother Nature for the reds - but not so timely for the whites which were only a couple of weeks from harvest. This was followed by some cooler conditions in late January and early February, this combination of events had the effect of delaying the white grape harvest with our first pick of Chardonnay on the February 8, which was one week later than the past few years. Harvest of the whites progressed slowly with the team picking small parcels of fruit each day, with Chardonnay being harvested during mid February to early March followed by Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc during the late February to mid-March period. The 2016 vintage was a very strong year overall for the whites which all displayed bright, intense varietal fruit flavours with excellent natural acidity. Vineyard The fruit for our Chenin Blanc is sourced from three Estate vineyard blocks. Voyager Estate has some of the oldest Chenin Blanc vines in Margaret River with one of our blocks being a part of the original 1978 plantings. The vineyard soils are typically gravelly loams with a stony clay subsoil with excellent drainage and good moisture holding capacity, producing vines with exceptional balance. All the vines are carefully hand-pruned, shoot thinned and are cultivated to a target yield of ten tonnes per hectare. (264940-1)

Tripelpunkt Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Eden Valley

Tripelpunkt Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Eden Valley

Average rating 5 out of 5 stars
3 REVIEWS
Lot No: 0032-2477233

This is our point-of-difference Riesling! In physics, the triple point is the thermodynamic conditions where a substance can exist in its solid, liquid and gaseous phases simultaneously. Our quest is for the oft-elusive triumvirate of Riesling, namely precision, texture and balance. Viticulture - Three old vine Riesling vineyards feature here with two of them being dry grown. Vine age varies from 22 years to 60+ years. The vineyards are spread from the north (Moculta) to the central (Flaxman Valley) to the south (Springton) of the Eden Valley in order to incorporate all the key geological features of this long sub-region. Being dry grown and effectively organically managed, there is great diversity in terms of both ripeness levels and sun exposure at the time of picking, leading to this wine's tell-tale complexity and wonderful pattern of ageing. Vinification - The main distinction here is the hand-picking combined with a lengthy whole-bunch press cycle (9 hours) wherein gentle skin contact encourages phenolic body. Cold fermented on solids in a temperature controlled inox fermenter using a combination of indiginous and selected yeasts to develop and protect delicate aromas. The ferment is chilled prior to sugar dryness in order to maintain a small (4.4g/L) amount of residual grape sugar. As a stylistic choice, we do not use any fining throughout the winemaking process and only minimum SO2 is added prior to bottling. (259204-6)

Not Your Grandma's Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Eden Valley

Not Your Grandma's Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Eden Valley

Lot No: 0020-2477233

This is the Riesling Zeitgeist. Grandma drank sweet "Riesling" from a box… now real riesling is back! From the pristine Eden Valley, home of Australia's finest Riesling. The goal with this wine is to show off the virtues of classic Eden Valley Riesling to fanatical Riesling lovers and the Riesling uninitiated. It demonstrates our preferred dry and zesty style of Riesling with fruit and acidity in perfect balance. Viticulture - Michael Noack's vineyard is just outside of the township of Springton in the southern Eden Valley. The Riesling vines were planted in 1973 on an ideal east-facing aspect that benefits from the prevailing breeze that helps to keep this vineyard fresh and disease free. The vineyard is planted in low-nutrient well-draining soils largely composed of quartz gravel. This geology in the southern end of the Eden Valley lends itself to the tell-tale Eden Valley Riesling steely minerality and delicate florals. Vineyard GPS coordinates: 34°42'06.5"S 139°05'03.4"E Vinification - Machine harvested for a few hours of intentional skin contact to build phenolic body. Cold fermented in a temperature controlled inox fermenter using a combination of indiginous and selected yeasts to develop and protect delicate aromas. As a stylistic choice, we do not use any fining throughout the winemaking process and only minimal SO2 is added prior to bottling. (255940-1)

Tertini International Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Hilltops, NSW

Tertini International Riesling 2016 (6 x 750mL) Hilltops, NSW

Lot No: 0031-2477233

The fruit for this wine was grown especially for Tertini Wines in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. The vineyard is situated on a rolling hillside near Young at an altitude of 550m and has rich red volcanic soils. This vineyard has warmer days to ripen our Riesling and cool nights to ensure our fruit is grown with the richness, aromatic development and balance that this region is renowned for. Vintage & Winemaking Notes - An early budburst and early strong growth was followed by warm temperatures through late Spring and early Summer resulting in an excellent flowering and fruit set. A dryer than usual Spring/Summer led to perfect ripening conditions post veraison, therefore disease pressures were low and excellent clean fruit was harvested across all varieties. The winter rains from 2014 ensured a healthy crop load with intense varietal character but with moderate acidity. (262854-1)

Bests Grampians Cleanskin Riesling 2016 (12 x 750mL) Grampians, VIC

Lot No: 0003-2477233

A real insider’s wine, or another Best Kept Secret, Great Western Riesling is aromatic and flavoursome yet structured and spectacularly age-worthy. Best's Rieslings stand confidently alongside their acclaimed South Australian cousins. The Great Western region lends itself well to producing exceptional Rieslings – its diurnal weather patterns (warm days/cold nights) work well for this varietal. Some of our original nursery plantings can be traced back to Germany, so there's a significant history and pedigree in the root stock of Great Western Riesling.Grown on the sandy loams of the Concongella Creek and the Rhymney Vineyard sites, and occasionally from selected local vineyards, Best’s Riesling shows the intensity and finesse that are hallmarks of the Great Western region. The wine is made to show true varietal characteristics, achieved by letting the pristine fruit shine above all else. It is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks, retaining the fruit’s inherent aromatics and acidity. Balance, texture and fruit flavour make for an accessible, food-friendly wine. And while made to drink now, it will definitely age for many years to come. We can testify that Best’s Great Western Rieslings from the 1970s are drinking superbly now. (262833-1)

The vines are all planted on gravelly loam soils with different aspects and microclimates offering slightly different flavour profiles. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyards are planted mainly to Clone 1, which is perfect for this style of wine, offering crunchy lifted tropical fruit aromas and flavours. The Semillon contributes strong citrus elements, and provides palate weight and structure to the wine. The core Semillon component is sourced from our North Block 10 vineyard which was planted in 1995. This vineyard consistently produces outstanding fruit with great flavour intensity. All the vines are hand-pruned, shoot-thinned and yields are regulated to a target of ten tonnes per hectare, which ensures consistency from season to season. (264940-2)

Wolf Blass `Blass Reserve` Adelaide Hills Sauv Blanc 2016 (6 x 750mL) SA

Lot No: 0032-2477132

The season began very dry, with a warm spring promoting strong canopy growth, and a moderate November ensuring good fruit set. Timely January rains refreshed the vines and allowed for good yields without impacting quality. A very mild February with cold nights slowed ripening, and warm March days with cool nights helped concentrate bright, elegant flavours while retaining long, fine acidity. In his heyday, Wolfgang Blass was confident and charismatic – just like his wines. He pushed winemaking boundaries, revolutionising the way Australians enjoyed wine. Fifty years on the world has changed, but Wolf’s spirit hasn’t, continuing to motivate and encourage our next generation winemakers to uphold his legacy.Inspired by a new wave of unconventional winemaking, Blass by Wolf Blass was born.
