Seresin Estate Gris 2018 (6 x 750mL), Marlborough, NZ.

ibrant and perfumed, with classic cool climate Pinot Gris aromatics of white peach and ripe yellow pear. Considered, early picking and time on lees has ensured that the wine is elegant and textured, yet finishes bright, refreshing and dry.Sourced from Seresin's clay-rich hillside Raupo Creek vineyard, which has a gentle north-west facing aspect, settled in the centre of the Omaka Valley.2018 will be remembered as being rather unusual for Marlborough, with a run of wet weather conditions following a period of warm weather. Fortunately our vineyards all fared well, with low yields and careful management ensuring a large proportion was harvested by the end of March. Above all, winemakers will remember this vintage for its fast and furious nature – blink and you nearly missed it! However the resulting wines are showing a great deal of poise, elegance and subtlety. We are beyond excited to nurture them into the bottle and bring them to market.Certified organic grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. The free run juice settled naturally for 48 hours, then racked into both a stainless steel tank, and old neutral barrels whereby the juice commenced fermentation naturally, after 5-10 days. A long, slow fermentation took place (four months), then the individual barrels and tank were blended to rest on fine lees for a further three months. After stabilisation, the wine was filtered prior to bottling.

Ten Sisters Single-Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2019 (12 x 750mL) Marlborough

Ten Sisters Single-Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2019 (12 x 750mL) Marlborough

Lot No: 0032-2478685

Marlborough is renowned as one of the world’s top regions for sauvignon blanc. The Ten Sisters vineyard is in the Southern Valleys subregion, known for its tropical fruit characteristics. The Southern Valleys are closer to the mountains, creating a cooler climate that leads to later ripening and more vibrant flavors. The soil of the Southern Valleys is primarily loess, or fine windblown soil derived from glacial deposits, and has more clay than other subregions. After being pressed to tank, then left to settle and clear, the juice was racked and inoculated with selected yeast strains known to enhance desirable varietal characteristics. The wine remained on yeast lees for two months, before racking to fine lees for another two months. (266741-1)

Winemaking

The fruit was harvested at night from premium Marlborough vineyards and gently pressed. The juices was then cold settled and cool fermented with yeast strains selected to enhance the natural varietal aromas. Following fermentation the wine was left to sit on lees before blending and bottling to build texture. Vintage he 2017/18 growing season in Marlborough was characterised by a warmer than average January followed by the wettest February on record. Despite th unusual ripening conditions the fruit maintained its natural acidity and achieved flavour ripeness at low baume, resulting in less alcoholic wines with great structure and flavour. Vineyard

Grapes were 100% estate grown on our own home block the Cob Cottage vineyard. Our Cob Cottage vineyard lies in the south eastern corner of the Wairau Valley, on the road just south of the township of Blenheim. The soil here is a mixture of gravel and sandy loam areas with some clay components. A warm site this vineyard regularly produces small ripe grapes with intensely flavoursome profiles and great length. This vineyard is run along organic principles with minimal use of any man made products (we are a member of Organic Winegrowers of NZ). Vinification All grapes were immediately transported to the winery, upon arrival they went straight into a receival bin and we allowed some skin/juice interaction. After 3 hours we loaded a small press and pressed all juice to tank, which was then cold settled for 48 hours, then racked with gross lees separated. A long cool ferment then followed, with the wine being fermented almost totally dry. The wine was then left on fine lees for several months prior to bottling. A portion of fermentation (20%) was also carried out in french oak barriques, allowed to sit on lees, then added back to the stainless steel portion shortly prior to the wine being cold stabilised and lightly filtered for bottling. Our Gris, as per usual includes a small portion of Gewurztraminer (3%) and Viogner (2%) adding flavour and complexity, all picked at the same time and co-fermented. Season 16/17 A warm start to the season with pleasing sunshine hours and little rain, and well below average wind-run in November (visitors do not realise that Marlborough is quite windy, with a prevailing Nor’wester most days). Warm weather continued over flowering, then January 2017 was warmer than normal with very low rainfall (27ml) and well above average wind-run. As we headed towards harvest March 2017 was overcast and cloudy and this slowed down ripening compared to the warm 2016 vintage. April was initially wet and we started vintage slightly early to avoid Any potential disease pressure. Our Gris is always pruned to two fruiting canes only, resulting in lower crop levels and early ripening, which in a vintage like this 2017, where it was wet over vintage, certainly paid off. Whales Tale Pinot Gris 2018 (6X750mL). NZ

Some say the humpback whales are the guardian spirits of the rugged coastline below our vineyard. According to legend a local warrior chief once befriended a humpback, which became his lifelong protector. Ever since, the mighty whales have watched over these parts like giant shepherds of the sea. From time to time we’ll see them wave their massive tails, casting good fortune on our ripening grapes. A good yarn maybe, but there’s no doubting that our wines are blessed with extraordinary flavours.
