Zilzie BTW Sauvignon Blanc 2018 (12 x 750mL) Murray Darling

Lot No: 0039-2480365

Winemaking

- The fruit was harvested during the cool of night to obtain a variety of fruit flavours ranging from grassy to tropical. The juice was cool fermented in stainless steel with aromatic yeast strains. This wine was bottled early to retain fresh fruit characters. Vintage - A mild spring followed by a classic warm and dry summer lead to outstanding quality across all varieties in Vintage 2018. These mild and dry conditions, whilst shaping exceptional fruit, saw a slight reduction in volume crushed than in previous years. Our vineyard and winemaking teams have worked passionately throughout Vintage 2018 to craft amazing wines with great colour, and flavour intensity that will enrich life’s everyday moments. Angove Groundswell Organic Chardonnay 2018 (6 x 750mL) SA

Angove Groundswell Organic Chardonnay 2018 (6 x 750mL) SA

Lot No: 0048-2480365

Vineyard

The grapes for this wine were sourced from Angove’s own organically certified Nanya vineyard at Paringa and certified growers in McLaren Vale.Despite a relatively dry winter, budburst was even and the timing was about on par with previous years; however, the dry soil caused many growers to water the vines earlier than normal. With dry conditions comes lack of disease pressure allowing our vineyard team to minimise the use of any mildew sprays. Dry conditions continued into January, with above average temperatures and a four day stretch in mid-January of above 40 degrees. With good canopies and careful irrigation this did not do any damage to the fruit unlike previous years. Winemaking Picked in the cool of dawn the grapes as cold as possible the grapes were transported to the winery and pressed using modern membrane tank presses. The juice was then cold settled and carefully racked to cooled fermentation tanks where it was inoculated with selected yeasts. Temperature controlled fermentation was followed by a short period on oak prior to blending and bottling. (268488-1)

Saltbush Pinot Grigio 2019 (12 x 750mL) SA

Saltbush Pinot Grigio 2019 (12 x 750mL) SA

Lot No: 0017-2480306

In the not so distant past inland Australia once shimmered in the scorching midday sun. Vast tracts of land were covered with a sea of grey-green foliage from the many types of saltbush plants. Saltbush derives its name from the salt that the plant retains in its leaves. Much of that land is now cleared for agricultural and horticulture including vineyards. The beauty of saltbush is that the plant is incredibly salt tolerant. They live for years and survive through all seasons throughout the year and it doesn't matter whether you get 50 points of rain in January or July, they will thrive.Herds of wild herbivores would move into a stand of saltbush and defoliate the plants as they consumed the leaves, then they moved on. In more recent times saltbush sustained the herds of introduced cattle and sheep in particular. The sheep has become an Australian icon and indeed the country, for a time, rode on the sheep’s back. Images spring to mind of Australia’s historic pastoral characters such as “Saltbush Bill” come into mind and the legend of Sir Sydney Kidman. (267920-9)

Ra Nui Pinot Gris 2017 (12 x 750mL) Marlborough, NZ

Ra Nui Pinot Gris 2017 (12 x 750mL) Marlborough, NZ

Lot No: 0013-2480306

Vineyard

Grapes were 100% estate grown on our own home block the Cob Cottage vineyard. Our Cob Cottage vineyard lies in the south eastern corner of the Wairau Valley, on the road just south of the township of Blenheim. The soil here is a mixture of gravel and sandy loam areas with some clay components. A warm site this vineyard regularly produces small ripe grapes with intensely flavoursome profiles and great length. This vineyard is run along organic principles with minimal use of any man made products (we are a member of Organic Winegrowers of NZ). Vinification All grapes were immediately transported to the winery, upon arrival they went straight into a receival bin and we allowed some skin/juice interaction. After 3 hours we loaded a small press and pressed all juice to tank, which was then cold settled for 48 hours, then racked with gross lees separated. A long cool ferment then followed, with the wine being fermented almost totally dry. The wine was then left on fine lees for several months prior to bottling. A portion of fermentation (20%) was also carried out in french oak barriques, allowed to sit on lees, then added back to the stainless steel portion shortly prior to the wine being cold stabilised and lightly filtered for bottling. Our Gris, as per usual includes a small portion of Gewurztraminer (3%) and Viogner (2%) adding flavour and complexity, all picked at the same time and co-fermented. Season 16/17 A warm start to the season with pleasing sunshine hours and little rain, and well below average wind-run in November (visitors do not realise that Marlborough is quite windy, with a prevailing Nor’wester most days). Warm weather continued over flowering, then January 2017 was warmer than normal with very low rainfall (27ml) and well above average wind-run. As we headed towards harvest March 2017 was overcast and cloudy and this slowed down ripening compared to the warm 2016 vintage. April was initially wet and we started vintage slightly early to avoid Any potential disease pressure. Our Gris is always pruned to two fruiting canes only, resulting in lower crop levels and early ripening, which in a vintage like this 2017, where it was wet over vintage, certainly paid off. The 2015 growing season was close to perfect with mild, dry weather producing excellent fruit. This allowed harvesting at optimum maturity, with good balance between fruit flavour and grape ripeness.Harvested in early February the grapes were de-stemmed and pumped into the press with only the best quality free run juice taken. The juice was then clarified before inoculating with a selected yeast. The fermentation wasstopped by chilling to 0oC. By doing this, the natural sweetness is maintained and a lower level of alcohol is produced. The wine was then stabilised, clarified and bottled. (267484-1)

Little Helper Valley Blend 2017 (12 x 750mL) King Valley, VIC

Average rating 4.6 out of 5 stars
7 REVIEWS
Lot No: 0018-2480338

The King Valley is one of Australia’s most exciting, emerging wine regions. It is located in North East Victoria – approximately three hours North of Melbourne and seven hours South of Sydney. Home to the most picturesque and unspoilt valley in Australia, King Valley benefits from a cool climate with extremely varied terrain, that ranges from snow-capped Alps to sun baked fields. The growing season was a return to gentle, mild and cool conditions. Cool nights and mild days extended the growing season while retaining natural acidity. The fruit quantity was balanced and fruit quality was exceptional, producing vibrant aromas and intense flavours in the white varieties. Overall, a classic vintage producing excellent white and sparkling wines. The fruit for the 2017 Valley Blend was picked between 9th March and the 30th March at low baumé ripeness. The grapes were picked in the early morning, pressed off skins into tank for fermentation with high solids to provide complexity and texture while still retaining fresh flavours. Once in tank, fermentation with high solids content at a 14.0°C ferment temperature was completed slowly over 4 weeks. This allowed retainment of fresh aromas and flavours while providing creamy texture and mouthfeel. The wine was left on yeast lees with weekly stirring to protect the freshness of the wine and adding further layers of textural complexity. The wine was bottled under screw cap. (267260-1)
