Nova Vita `Firebird` Pinot Noir 2014 (12 x 750mL), Adelaide Hills, SA.

Grape growing is not without its challenges with a brief burst of high heat early February and then significant tropical rain to break the heat creating a challenge. However, mild and sunny ripening weather in the last 4 weeks of veraison has produced grapes with fantastic fruit characters and excellent balanced acidity. Well developed canopies and below average yields provided the perfect environment for the harvesting of a full flavoured Pinot Noir. brioche. The palate is a mix of citrus (in particular lime), white stone fruits, fresh apples and raw almonds with a slightly creamy texture. Barrel fermentation has added some complexity and textural richness, which is balanced by crisp natural acidity.

Hutton Vale Grenache Mataro 2012 (6 x 750mL), Eden Valley, SA.

There’s a great story about this Grenache vineyard, planted by Colin Angas in the 1960’s. The soil here was so tough that some of the new plantings, probably 10% of the vineyard block, failed to take to their new home and had to be replaced. New cuttings were hastily acquired…which time revealed to be Mataro! That no one ever thought to start over (yet again) is brilliant fortune as the Mataro makes a ripper partner for the Grenache.Across the Barossa, the growing and harvest conditions were ideal. The Grenache (93%) and Mataro (7%) were handpicked on April 10, destemmed and fermented on skins in small open stainless steel fermenters for 6 days with twice daily pump overs. The wine was matured in a combination of 20% new and 80% seasoned French puncheons for 24 months.

Tyrrell's `Stevens Single Vineyard` Shiraz 2016 (6 x 750mL) Hunter Valley

This wine region is made up of the upper Hunter and lower Hunter, and is linked by the Hunter River. Settlement commenced in the Hunter Valley region in 1826. In the 20th century, expansion occurred slowly until the boom period of the 1960s and 1970s. The majority of the vineyards in the lower Hunter are situated on the extreme southern side of what is a broad and relatively flat valley nestled into the foothills of the Brokenback Range. The terrain is gently to markedly undulating, bordered to the north, west and south-west by the Great Dividing Range. The summer climate in the Hunter is humid, with high cloud cover and high rainfall. A break in the Great Dividing Range allows summer sea breezes to penetrate the valley. Rainfall is often highest just prior to and during harvest in February. The vintage period is one of the earliest and shortest in Australia with harvest commencing in late January in the lower Hunter. Yields are generally low so grape quality is good, and there is an inexplicable affinity between the terroir and the semillon and shiraz grapes for which the area is justly renowned. With our first plantings in 1879, Pokolbin remains the home of Tyrrell’s vineyards and has become recognised as some of the Hunter Valley’s finest vineyard land and the basis for development of our premium wines.

La Resistance! Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2015 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

A vinous rematch of the famous 1811 BATTLE AT BARROSA RIDGE where Spain and France collided. La Re´sistance! takes up the fight for the traditional French varieties of the Barossa and pitches gnarly old vine GRENACHE, SYRAH & MOURVE`DRE into defence against the invading foreign marauders. Viticulture - Grenache makes up 55% of this wine, delivering a Grenache-centric GSM, with elegant Syrah (33%) and spicy Mourve`dre (12%) adding tell-tale definition and structure. The majority of the Grenache is from an old cool Williamstown vineyard, on the border of the Adelaide Hills, which is blended with Grenache from a special Krondorf Road parcel. Early harvest Syrah is from a 69 year old Ebenezer vineyard and from the Heinrich vineyard in the Lyndoch foothills, which unites with the lovely blue-fruit characters of Syrah from a small Northern Eden Valley vineyard on the outskirts of Angaston. The remainder of the blend is powerful, spicy Mourve`dre.
