Ashbrook Shiraz 2016 (12 x 750mL), Margaret River, WA.

With almost ideal weather conditions for whites exceptional fruit has been produced showing intense varietal flavours that are typical Margaret River. Aromatic varieties were outstanding with fresh citrus, lemon blossom and stone fruit on the nose and palate balanced off by crisp acidity. The temperature cooled off toward the end of February providing ideal weather conditions for the red varietals to fully ripen their flavour profiles and tannins. Once again there was a huge amount of Marri blossom leading into vintage therefore Silvereye bird damage was minimal. Flavour intensity was further benefited by the fact that cropping levels were reduced by around 30% across the region due to storms in early spring.

Stage Door Wine Co. Front & Centre Shiraz 2014 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Stage Door Wine Co. Front & Centre Shiraz 2014 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Lot No: 0029-2478133

The 2014 growing season was one of the wackiest in living memory! Following the low yielding 2013 vintage the season started well, but the first threat came from unseasonal late frosts. Summer was the hottest on record with 13 days recording a maximum of over 40ºC. During this period the devastating Eden Valley bushfire ignited on 17 January adjacent the Eden Valley Township, but thankfully (for us), the winds took it in an opposite direction. The hottest ever summer was followed by the wettest day since 1969 with more than 100 mm of rain falling on Valentine’s Day. Whilst some rain would have been welcome, too much of a good thing caused further loss of crop through splitting of fruit. Harvest was then on in earnest beginning with some Riesling blocks on 26 February and finishing earlier than usual with Cabernet and Shiraz on 6 April. A rollercoaster year that ultimately produced good fruit, but very low yields. (263879-1)

Jester Shiraz 2013 (12 x 750mL) McLaren Vale, SA

Jester Shiraz 2013 (12 x 750mL) McLaren Vale, SA

Lot No: 0004-2478133

Origin

A lot of love goes into our wines, and our Jester Shiraz is no exception. We affectionately refer to our Jester Shiraz as our ‘baby G.A.M.’ - reusing the same oak barrels in which our G.A.M. Shiraz was previously aged. The vineyards for the Jester Shiraz are located at the southern end of McLaren Vale, close to the seaside town of Aldinga. The combination of cool sea breezes and gully winds provide ideal conditions for growing fruit ofintensity and balance. The vines sit in heavy clay, which gives the wine powerful fruit flavours. In 2012 ideal conditions over the growing season produced a fantastic wine that speaks of its origin. The wine is full flavoured, with dark fruits and savoury black olive characters, and soft, silky tannins. Creation The 2013 vintage was a great one for us in McLaren Vale, producing deeply flavoured wines with greatenergy. The Shiraz fruit for our Jester wine is crushed immediately after being delivered to us at the winery. We allow the skin and juice mix to warm naturally over a period of several days, after which it begins fermentation. The ferment is held cool, to retain the bright primary fruit characters which appear in the resulting wine. Following ferment we carefully press the wine to separate it from the skins. The wine is then transferred into oak barrels (10% new for this vintage) where it stays for eighteen months before it hits the bottle, and then our family and friends tables. All of our Jester wines are named after Jesters of the 15th and 16th Century. For this wine, we chose a Jester who, like the wine, is often a favourite amongst its peers. Richard Tarlton drew significant attention as a favourite amongst the Jesters of Queen Elizabeth 1. Tarlton, the first to achieve national celebrity as a comedian, also boasted a successful career in the theatre as a leading member of the Queen’s Players. Hedabbled as a writer, and published a number of popular ballads and plays. The talented Jester was a complex and colourful character, much like our Jester wine. (265762-7)

Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot 2013 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River

Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot 2013 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River

Lot No: 0040-2478133

Vintage

Following the driest July ever recorded in the South West, early spring conditions saw excellent budbreak and steady vine growth, as frequent rainfall events ensured good soil moisture prior to flowering. Late November brought thunderstorms and extreme winds to the region which resulted in reduced yields across most varieties - particularly Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon which were reduced by around 30%. The summer was very warm and dry with some bursts of heat during late December which advanced the development of the fruit. With warm and dry conditions continuing into February, many blocks reached optimal flavour at the same time, resulting in a very compressed harvest period for the whites. Our first harvest of Chardonnay was on the 6th of February which is nearly 10 days earlier than our long term average. Our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot fruit was harvested during late March and early April which is quite typical for these varieties. All of the fruit was harvested in pristine condition with great vibrancy and excellent flavour profiles ensuring 2013 will produce another excellent crop of wines. Vineyard Voyager Estate Girt by Sea is produced primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes sourced from our North Block and Weightmans vineyards. The gentle rolling gravelly hills provide the perfect soils for growing vines with excellent natural balance and moderate yields. All of our vineyards are managed following a sustainable and natural approach to viticulture, with a focus on building a healthy and resilient vineyard through the use of natural products and the encouragement of bio diversity. There is also a component of Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot utilised in this blend from two premium selected vineyards. The Estate vineyards are planted to four different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon which contribute slightly different fruit profiles to the final wine. The vines are all meticulously trained to a vertical shoot positioned canopy and are hand pruned, shoot thinned and green thinned prior to harvest. (264940-3)

This single vineyard has become one of Australia’s most respected cool climate Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay producers. Our parcels of fruit receive high input viticulture, hand-pruning, shoot thinning, leaf plucking, bunch thinning, multiple wire-lifts, low cropping levels and hand picking. The Vineyard is under the ownership of Matthew Hill-Smith and his daughter Christobel, representing seven generations of continuous Hill-Smith family winemaking since 1849. Point Eight refers to the total plantings of Shiraz on this single vineyard being .8 of a hectare. After hand picking, 90% of the fruit was destemmed and 10% left as whole bunches. The fruit was fermented in small open fermenters which were hand plunged daily before being basket pressed and matured in French Oak barrels for approximately 11 months.
