Langmeil `Valley Floor` Shiraz 2017 (6 x 750mL), Barossa, SA.

The Barossa is famous for its viticulture, history and winemaking dating back to the 1840s. At its heart is the Valley Floor, a highly-prized strip of prime viticultural land which is the very foundation and forms the essence of this wine. A true taste of the Barossa.Local knowledge has helped us select and secure prized Shiraz across the breadth and depth of the Barossa while retaining the foundation fruit from the Valley Floor. The combination of hands-on winemaking and vineyard diversity results in pure Barossa Shiraz. This is why the Valley Floor Shiraz has received the Barossa Trust Mark.THE WINERYThe Lindner family of Langmeil Winery has been immersed in the Barossa’s culture of farming, food, wine and community for six generations. Their commitment to quality in all aspects is unwavering, and any wine that bears the Langmeil name represents the family’s pursuit of excellence in wine and community.

Smith & Hooper `Reserve` Merlot 2017 (6 x 750mL), SA.

Vintage Conditions

The growing season was one of the wettest on record, replenishing the soil moisture content and setting the vines up very well. The wet conditions were capped off by a cooler than average spring and early summer. Temperatures normalized at the start of February, with the ensuing long, cool ripening period resulting in lovely fruit flavours and natural acidity. Viticulture/ Winemaking Our Smith’s vineyard is home to some of the most exciting clones of Merlot in Australia; the Argentinean sourced 8R and Italian Q45-14. Planted in 2003 we are starting to see the fruit mature beautifully. The use of these clones combined with carefully considered viticulture and winemaking practices are the foundation of this special wine. A large portion of this wine is created by fermenting “berries in the barrel”. Three tonnes of handpicked Merlot was destemmed into French barriques without crushing the berries. Whole berry fermentation minimises the tannin extraction and creates a style of Merlot that is powerful yet generous and flavoursome without harsh tannins.Ancient and secluded, Wrattonbully is one of Australia’s most exciting viticultural discoveries of recent times. Blessed with the celebrated soil profile of terra rossa over limestone, the region is rapidly establishing a high class reputation for wines of depth and elegance. Soft, yet full of flavour, rich and elegant. Wrattonbully Merlot captivates with its flavour, intensity and opulence. Along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot is naturally at home within this young viticultural region in South Australia’s Limestone Coast.

Brokenwood `Graveyard Vineyard` Shiraz 2017 (3 x 750mL), Hunter Valley, NSW

Understandably some excitement surrounding the release of this wine. Scooping the pool at the 2015 Hunter Valley Wine Show with 5 trophies is a massive achievement. Tasting the wine it is easy to see why. A wine of great poise and is it as good as the 1998 and 1986? Time will tell but it is a very, very good Shiraz.Chief Winemaker Iain Riggs made the comment during vintage 2014 that he thought in 32 years there were no more surprises left. Except of course starting to pick Semillon on the 8th of January and Shiraz one month later.Once upon a time, before the private irrigation scheme, some Shiraz was picked in late January but Semillon was always early February. Not so any more. The winter and the spring of 2013 were very dry, in fact 207mm in the last 5 months of the year. Lower crop and low foliage equals earlypicking except vintage 2014 which was not too dissimilar to 2000, except 2014 had perfectly ripe tannins at much lower sugar levels. An effortless high quality vintage for the winemakers.

Bodega Catena Zapata 'Alamos' Malbec 2018 (12 x 750mL), Mendoza, Argentina.

Bodega Catena have long believed that every wine begins in the vineyard, pioneering a research project into the microclimates of Mendoza. Through the planting of select clones on various blocks, Bodega Catena were able to identify the ideal locations. Sites which are just a few kilometers apart can have vast differences in altitude and possess markedly different microclimates. The same varietal and even the same clone, can exhibit distinct aromatic and flavour profiles. All vines are all managed by hand and are trained to produce extremely low yields. This wines are made in very limited quantities, fruit is micro fermented in new French oak barriques and treated to an extended ageing in new French oak.

Jim Barry `The Cover Drive` Cabernet Sauvignon 2017(6 x 750mL), SA.

On the southern boundary of Coonawarra is the old Penola cricket ground, which first saw a ball bowled in anger and the flashing cover drives of the local champions in 1950. Sadly, the ground closed in 1996. Soon after Jim Barry purchased the 30 acre property and planted a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. The original pavilion and pitch have been retained, thus preserving an important piece of Coonawarra sporting history. Fruit from this vineyard, along with selected parcels of fruit from our family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended to produce a wine that is rich, soft and approachable.

Vinification

- Modern share-plate dining calls for a vibrant joven-style red blend. Not Your Grandma’s Red is a judicious blend of Grenache (42%) Tempranillo (31%) Shiraz (19%) Mataro (8%) picked earlier for freshness from old vines for depth of flavour. We utilise minimal-intervention winemaking including minimal sulfites. Matured in seasoned French and American hogshead barrels. Producer Note - The secret is out: Barossa Valley winemakers prefer blends. Yeah baby, THE BLEND IS BACK! Grandma’s flagon of claret was porty and stewed, now VIBRANT FRUIT is the order of the day. Dandelion Vineyards is a unique fusion of vineyards and vignerons. Our wines represent decades of experience, blending the fruit of our old vine gardens with the finest traditions of artisan winemaking.Dandelion Vineyards are proven plantings that have stood the test of time. Our wish is to nurture the unique character of these vineyards and express their terroir in our wines. Dandelion Vineyards is a unique fusion of vineyards and vignerons. Our wines represent decades of experience, blending the fruit of our old vine gardens with the finest traditions of artisan winemaking. At the end of our old vine garden path there is a historic ‘Menagerie’ of three grape varieties, adjoining blocks of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro at Gomersal in the Barossa. After hand picking selected bunches of our Menagerie field blend on the 22nd of March our winemaker Elena Brooks let the whole bunches ferment together in open top fermenters with ambient or ‘other people’s’ yeasts for 14 days, before basket pressing in old French Oak barriques. The wines was then matured for a further 12 months in the same oak, before bottling without fining or filtration to capture the essence of our vinous Menagerie of the Barossa. This vintage of our Menagerie of the Barossa has a high level of natural acidity, a pH 3.49 and is bone dry. It is ménage à trois that makes wine truly of its time and place, a wish come true and a looking glass, if you will, and although ready to drink immediately it will also reward cellaring and decanting. Saltbush Merlot 2019 (12 x 750mL) SEA

Lot No: 0044-2486958

In the not so distant past inland Australia once shimmered in the scorching midday sun. Vast tracts of land were covered with a sea of grey-green foliage from the many types of saltbush plants. Saltbush derives its name from the salt that the plant retains in its leaves. Much of that land is now cleared for agricultural and horticulture including vineyards. The beauty of saltbush is that the plant is incredibly salt tolerant. They live for years and survive through all seasons throughout the year and it doesn't matter whether you get 50 points of rain in January or July, they will thrive.Herds of wild herbivores would move into a stand of saltbush and defoliate the plants as they consumed the leaves, then they moved on. In more recent times saltbush sustained the herds of introduced cattle and sheep in particular. The sheep has become an Australian icon and indeed the country, for a time, rode on the sheep’s back. Images spring to mind of Australia’s historic pastoral characters such as “Saltbush Bill” come into mind and the legend of Sir Sydney Kidman. (270745-10)

CABERNET MERLOT 2016

Rich, generous and approachable, the McGuigan Black Label range is your contemporary guide to Australia's most popular wine varieties. Whether it be a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, a full-bodied Chardonnay or Australia's #1 selling bottled red wine, McGuigan Black Label Red, every bottle of McGuigan Black Label is packed full of varietal flavour, proving that you need not be a connoisseur to enjoy the wine of your choice for any occasion. VINTAGE CONDITIONS The fruit for this wine was sourced from our vineyards in South Eastern Australia. The climate is hot with high evaporation rates and generally low rainfall, making irrigation essential. The climate is also continental, resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights. Long sunshine hours ensure fruit ripens fully and low relative humidity results in little incidence of disease. WINEMAKING This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The reason this blend works so well is that the two varieties compliment each other allowing a fuller flavoured wine with an all round mouth feel. This approachable, full-flavoured wine derives from fruit sourced from our various dry and irrigated vineyards and was harvested at night. The grapes were fermented at cool temperatures for a period of 5-7 days. This allows the fruit flavours to be nurtured and entables retention of varietal characteristics. After fermentation, the wine was matured in stainless steel tanks and oak prior to final blending. (272326-4)
