Tarrawarra Pinot Noir 2017 (6 x 750mL), VIC.

Vintage notes

2017 was a later and cooler year in the Yarra Valley. January and February brought perfect ripening conditions, with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s, and cool nights during allowing for retention of acid and fine flavor development. Yields were 7 tonnes per hectare. Site selection The fruit was picked from various blocks with vines aged between 21 and 33 years old, grown on high north facing slopes to maximize sunshine hours. Northerly winds from Long Gully provide good air flow and favourable micro-climates across the Estate.

Helen's Hill `Long Walk` Pinot Noir 2013 (12 x 750mL), Yarra Valley, VIC.

Our Helen’s Hill “Long Walk” Pinot Noir is one of our hallmark wines. All the fruit is fermented in open top fermenters before being transferred to French oak for maturation. The key to our Pinot Noir is the diversity of clones that we have on our property. Different clones to Pinot Noir wine are like patches on a patch work quilt: individually, they look good, but put them all together and they are sensational.

Tyrrell's `Special Release` Pinot Noir 2017 (12 x 750mL) Hunter Valley

Vineyard

Sourced predominately from our HVD vineyard with the remaining fruit coming from our Short Flat and 4 & 8 Acres vineyards. Vintage Conditions The 2017 vintage in the Hunter Valley was one of the best in recent memory, producing wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in Winter and Spring meant the vines had constant access to water, and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition when it was harvested. Winemaker’s Notes A mixture of both hand and machine harvesting, with the hand component forming the percentage of whole bunch fermentation we required. In this instance it was 20%. The machine picked fruit was placed on top of these whole bunches. The ferments were gently pumped over three times daily before gentle pressing and maturation for 9 months in French Oak barriques, 5% new.

Save our Souls Pinot Noir 2018 (12 x 750mL), Yarra Valley, VIC.
Save our Souls Pinot Noir 2018 (12 x 750mL), Yarra Valley, VIC.

Four parcels of fruit from came from 3 vineyards across the top of the peninsula. Clones MV6, 114 and G5 were harvested. Two the 3 sites are side by side in Tuerong, and provided 70% of the fruit, with the 3rd being on the border of Tuerong and Hastings. This Bittern vineyard is reasonably flat whilst the Tuerong sites are on a gentle hillside, both are roughly the same latitude and sit on sandy/clay loam. All fruit was hand harvested in the second and third week of March. All parcels were fully destemmed into open fermenters and chilled for approximately 48 hours. The must was given some more light cap work in the form of pumping over whilst natural fermentation kicked off. The cap was monitored daily to determine any pumping over. This was to avoid over extraction yet still maintain good CO2 and moisture level. After 4 to 6 weeks maceration the must was drained, pressed and the filled to neutral oak for 12 months. All barrels were racked and blended and a small addition of 40ppm SO2 was added, prior to bottling. This was the only Sulphur added during the entire process.

Rob Dolan `White Label` Pinot Noir 2017 (12 x 750mL), Yarra Valley, VIC.

“In contrast to the warm and compact growing season of 2016, Vintage 2017 saw a return to more traditional conditions. A cool and wet spring delayed budburst and flowering and consequently we had a later start to harvest in early March. Some truly ideal weather followed with about three to four weeks of blue skies and temperatures in the high 20’s with no heat spikes. The even temperatures, cool nights and long ripening period provided us with some excellent fruit across all varieties.” Rob Dolan – Winemaker

Tyrrell's `Vat 6` Pinot Noir 2017 (12 x 750mL), Hunter Valley, NSW

This wine region is made up of the upper Hunter and lower Hunter, and is linked by the Hunter River. Settlement commenced in the Hunter Valley region in 1826. In the 20th century, expansion occurred slowly until the boom period of the 1960s and 1970s. The majority of the vineyards in the lower Hunter are situated on the extreme southern side of what is a broad and relatively flat valley nestled into the foothills of the Brokenback Range. The terrain is gently to markedly undulating, bordered to the north, west and south-west by the Great Dividing Range. The summer climate in the Hunter is humid, with high cloud cover and high rainfall. A break in the Great Dividing Range allows summer sea breezes to penetrate the valley. Rainfall is often highest just prior to and during harvest in February. The vintage period is one of the earliest and shortest in Australia with harvest commencing in late January in the lower Hunter. Yields are generally low so grape quality is good, and there is an inexplicable affinity between the terroir and the semillon and shiraz grapes for which the area is justly renowned. With our first plantings in 1879, Pokolbin remains the home of Tyrrell’s vineyards and has become recognised as some of the Hunter Valley’s finest vineyard land and the basis for development of our premium wines.
