La Resistance! Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2015 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Average rating 2 out of 5 stars
1 REVIEW
Lot No: 0018-2477983

A vinous rematch of the famous 1811 BATTLE AT BARROSA RIDGE where Spain and France collided. La Re´sistance! takes up the fight for the traditional French varieties of the Barossa and pitches gnarly old vine GRENACHE, SYRAH & MOURVE`DRE into defence against the invading foreign marauders. Viticulture - Grenache makes up 55% of this wine, delivering a Grenache-centric GSM, with elegant Syrah (33%) and spicy Mourve`dre (12%) adding tell-tale definition and structure. The majority of the Grenache is from an old cool Williamstown vineyard, on the border of the Adelaide Hills, which is blended with Grenache from a special Krondorf Road parcel. Early harvest Syrah is from a 69 year old Ebenezer vineyard and from the Heinrich vineyard in the Lyndoch foothills, which unites with the lovely blue-fruit characters of Syrah from a small Northern Eden Valley vineyard on the outskirts of Angaston. The remainder of the blend is powerful, spicy Mourve`dre. (255940-5)

Not Your Grandma's Red 2016 (6 x 750mL) Barossa Valley, SA

Average rating 3.3 out of 5 stars

Lot No: 0027-2477983

Vinification

- Modern share-plate dining calls for a vibrant joven-style red blend. Not Your Grandma’s Red is a judicious blend of Grenache (42%) Tempranillo (31%) Shiraz (19%) Mataro (8%) picked earlier for freshness from old vines for depth of flavour. We utilise minimal-intervention winemaking including minimal sulfites. Matured in seasoned French and American hogshead barrels. Producer Note - The secret is out: Barossa Valley winemakers prefer blends. Yeah baby, THE BLEND IS BACK! Grandma’s flagon of claret was porty and stewed, now VIBRANT FRUIT is the order of the day. This is RED WINE FOR OUR TIMES! Unlabelled bottles. Labels on outer carton. Fined With Milk Products, some traces may remain. Contains sulphites.14.0 % Alc/Vol Standard Drinks 8.3 per bottle (255940-3)

La Resistance! Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2016 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Lot No: 0019-2477983

Grenache makes up 55% of this wine, delivering a Grenache-centric GSM, with elegant Syrah (33%) and spicy Mourvèdre (12%) adding tell-tale definition and structure. The remainder of the blend is powerful, spicy Mourvèdre. This is definitely a Grenache-driven GSM! Subtle seasoned oak and caramel lead to a deep-fruited, dark cherry and strawberry palate with supple fine-grain tannin. Gentle refreshing acidity gives great line and drives the brooding and delicious fruit through to a lingering finish. (262783-2)

This wine continues my love affair with this blend. It has a solid backbone of ripe McLaren Vale Grenache and it captures the essence of the winemaker’s craft. 2013 produced big robust wines that carry lots of oak complexity and lovely scented spice. This batch has been kept back for extra aging and complexity. (265192-2)

Teusner Joshua Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2018 (6 x 750mL), Barossa, SA.

Our very first wine, and like Mick’s first son, we called it/ him Joshua. Typically a blend of about 2/3rds old vine Grenache, a chunk of Mataro and a splash of Shiraz, we keep our Josh’ away from oak and release it young to showcase the kind of juicy, spicy, flavorsome wines you can do so well in the Barossa by blending heritage varieties from old vines.

Hutton Vale Grenache Mataro 2012 (6 x 750mL), Eden Valley, SA.

There’s a great story about this Grenache vineyard, planted by Colin Angas in the 1960’s. The soil here was so tough that some of the new plantings, probably 10% of the vineyard block, failed to take to their new home and had to be replaced. New cuttings were hastily acquired…which time revealed to be Mataro! That no one ever thought to start over (yet again) is brilliant fortune as the Mataro makes a ripper partner for the Grenache.Across the Barossa, the growing and harvest conditions were ideal. The Grenache (93%) and Mataro (7%) were handpicked on April 10, destemmed and fermented on skins in small open stainless steel fermenters for 6 days with twice daily pump overs. The wine was matured in a combination of 20% new and 80% seasoned French puncheons for 24 months.

St Clementin Réserve Benoit XII Châteauneuf du Pape 2015 (3x 750mL), Rhone

Lot No: 0034-2477952

In the XIVe century Pope Jean XXII, chose Chateauneuf as the location for their summer residences, and then decided to plant vines on the stony land which surrounded their landholdings. For a long time the wine production remained a secret but started to become well known in the XVIIIe century but it was in 1929, that it was officially recognized and bestowed with it's own appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This appellation means that the wine production in Chateauneuf du Pape is subject to strict controls to ensure that the 55 vineyards produce an extremely fine wine.Located between Avignon and Orange, Chateauneuf-du-Pape spreads out at the foot of the remains of it's fortress castle.. The village looks over the plain of Comtat and the 3 000 hectares of vine fields. The village is almost completely dedicated to its world famous wine "Chateauneuf du Pape" which is also part of the similarly famous Cotes du Rhone. (263345-13)

Teusner `Avatar` Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2016 (6 x 750mL), Barossa, SA.

Whilst Shiraz might be the poster boy for the Barossa, we believe blending it with Grenache and Mataro produces the best drinking wines from this region. Thanks to our good mates the Riebke brothers and other Barossa growers whose families have stuck by these varieties for the past 100 years or more, we’re privileged to have fruit from very old vines to make our GMS blends. In 2002, our first vintage, we made one wine…an unoaked GMS blend we called Joshua. With that wine selling out quickly, we decided to have a crack at releasing a second wine from the vintage, a different take on the original blend and aged in old seasoned oak for 12 months. Loosely interpreted, Avatar can mean ‘transformation’…so a pretty good moniker for a wine we fondly refer to as the older brother for our Josh’.

Yangarra GSM 2016 (6 x 750mL), McLaren Vale, SA.

There are 100 hectares of vineyards at Yangarra in 35 individual blocks. These vineyards are spread amongst an extra 70 hectares of creeks, native vegetation and native corridors. Each block is defined by different aspects and subtle variations of the sand and Ironstone soils that overlie the ancient North Maslin Sands geological formation. The 2016 growing season was marked by a dry spring and was headed for a very early and compressed season. We had some mild summer rains which slowed the sugar ripening of the vines down, and helped give brightness and fleshiness to vintage.Certified Organic/Biodynamic.

Vintage

lentiful winter rains gave the vines a healthy start to the 2018 growing season. A warmer and drier than average spring hurried things along and early estimates indicated above average bunch numbers in most varieties. Late spring and early summer were relatively mild resulting in good flowering and fruit set. However, dry conditions continued and both berry size (lowering actual yield) and shoot length were somewhat diminished. Several heat spikes in late January and early February (it’s not a South Australian summer if you don’t have a couple!) interrupted veraison, with the picking of some of our earlier ripening vineyards delayed until the beginning of March (later than expected). Perfect, mild ripening weather followed to the end of April ensuring all Eden Valley parcels achieved full flavour ripeness slightly earlier than forecast. Despite a later than anticipated start and an earlier than usual finish, the compressed harvest produced wines of deep colour, flavour and balance across the board. Another ripper Barossa vintage!
