Lot No: 0011-2474230

When the early pioneers left their camps to explore, their trusty dogs would sit on the Tuckerbox guarding provisions, until they returned. From the 1850’s the dog sitting on the Tuckerbox has been immortalized in early poems and songs. In 1932 the Prime Minister of Australia, Joe Lyons unveiled a statue of the Dog on the Tuckerbox. The statue still stands today on the Hume Highway (5 miles from Gundagai). In recognition of the early pioneers (and their trusty Dogs) we have produced wines, beers and ciders under the Tuckerbox label. Oakgrove Estate Cabernet Merlot 2016 (12 x 750mL) SEA

Oakgrove Estate Cabernet Merlot 2016 (12 x 750mL) SEA

Lot No: 0022-2474230

Background

- Founded by father and son, Oakgrove Estate is the product of more than four decades’ experience in the Australian wine industry. With the mission of sharing Australian wine with the world,Oakgrove Estate provides high quality examples of Australia’s best known varietals at an affordable price. Region - Oakgrove Estate wines are sourced from vineyards across NSW and Victoria which are in close proximity to Australia’s famous and beautiful Murray River, widely known to be the life of Australia’s food bowl. The natural creation of the river system millions of years ago in Australia has provided rich fertile soils from which these vineyards benefit. The climate in these areas provides hot summers with cold to mild winters allowing ideal growing conditions each year to produce consistent quality and fantastic wines year after year. Vineyard - The fruit for Oakgrove Estate wines are carefully selected from low yielding vineyards, planted on clay soils which provide ideal levels of nutrients and water retention. The grapes are harvested at night as the cooler conditions help ensure that the fruit arrives in the winery in perfect condition. Winemaking - The grapes are selectively harvested in February during the night. The fruit was destemmed only and gently pressed to avoid excessive phenolics. After cold settling, the juice was rackedand then fermented in tank using a neutral yeast to express the varietal aromas. A portion of the wine receives oak maturation on a mixture of French and American oak for added complexity. (262853-1)

Lot No: 0036-2474265

Parcels of fruit from selected vineyards were fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel for upto ten days to maximise colour and flavour extraction. After primary fermentation the wines were soft pressed andunderwent malolactic fermentation. Aged on French oak for a further six months before being blended and filtered prior to bottling. The mild weather conditions during the lead up to harvest together with warm January temperatures were the perfect conditions for optimal flavour development across the white varieties. The odd burst of extreme heat resulted in an early start to vintage but as the harvest progressed these conditions moderated, extending the ripening period for the reds ensuring they too reached maturity with an ideal balance of sugar, acid, colour and flavour. Jacob's Creek `Classic` Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (12 x 750mL), SE AUS.

From humble beginnings in France, Cabernet Sauvignon is ‘the little grape that could’, its popularity rising so rapidly that it’s now grown in most major wine-growing countries around the world.Undoubtedly one of the most attractive attributes of a Cabernet Sauvignon is its ability to age with grace. Cellared correctly, average wines can last 10 years; better wines, 15 years; and outstanding Australian vintages can develop over 20 years, not unlike their great French counterparts.Make no mistake. A complex, full-bodied wine like Cabernet Sauvignon does not suffer dainty food. Instead, it loves fat and protein; rare or medium-rare proteins, like steak and lamb; dark rich sauces; red wine reductions; bitter chocolate – all will do well against a young, lively Cabernet Sauvignon. As the wine mellows, try pairing with stews or braises.

Winemaking

- Selected batches of Shiraz fruit were crushed and co-fermented with Viognier. Following fermentation on skins for five to seven days, the ferments were membrane pressed and matured inFrench oak before blending and bottling. The resulting wine has excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity. Vintage - A mild spring followed by a classic warm and dry summer lead to outstanding quality across all varieties in Vintage 2018. These mild and dry conditions, whilst shaping exceptional fruit, saw a slight reduction in volume crushed than in previous years. Our vineyard and winemaking teams have worked passionately throughout Vintage 2018 to craft amazing wines with great colour, and flavour intensity that will enrich life’s everyday moments. Lot No: 0010-2474265

Grape varieties

- 93% Shiraz, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot Vinification - After night harvesting the Shiraz grapes were crushed into static fermenters. After crushing the must was inoculated with AWRI 796 yeast. Controlled fermentation occurred over seven days, commencing at 24°C reducing to 20°C. Gentle Pump-overs occurred six times daily to maximise the extraction of colour whilst still retaining a soft juicy palate structure. Pump-overs were reduced to twice daily towards the end of fermentation to minimise seed tannin extraction. To avoid any harsh tannins and bitterness only free run and first pressings were used in this blend. After pressing the wines were settled before racking onto American oak for 3 months. (262470-1)

Nearly 60% of fruit was from NSW with Gundagai and Central Ranges providing the bulk. Both regions enjoyed trouble free vintages. The remaining 40% is split equally between McLaren Vale and Beechworth. A very hot and short vintage in McLaren Vale, which meant keeping the water up to the vines. Beechworth had a near perfect vintage. Somewhat of a cliché but the combination of all really does over deliver in quality. (251211-1)

Lot No: 0008-2474195

Selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot parcels of fruit were chosen to complement each other for this wine, with Cabernet Sauvignon selected on the basis of structure and length, Merlot to give fruit weight and softness across the mid palate. Fermentation took place for between 10 – 14 days with temperatures ranging from 18 - 28°C. During fermentation, regular assessment of colour and tannin extraction ensured parcels were soft and fruit has driven in style. Maturation of selected batches of the wines in older French oak hogsheads for up to 12 months added approachability and softness to the wines prior to blending. (254012-3)

Langton’s Classified: ExcellentTop Vintage

The Penfolds St. Henri style is a dramatic contrast to Penfolds Grange. St. Henri is pure, unadorned Shiraz, virtually alone among high-quality Australian reds in that it has never relied on new oak. It was created in the mid-1950s (first commercial vintage 1957) and has gained a new lease on life in the 1990s as its quality and distinctive style became better understood. (263660-89)

Penfolds `Bin 95` Grange 1993 (1 x 750mL), SA.

Lot No: 0007-2473649

Grange is the benchmark by which all other reds in this country, and, increasingly, overseas, are often measured. The reasons for this are many yet straightforward. Concentration of flavour, complexity and longevity - Grange blossoms with 15 to 20 years of bottle age, when most other reds have past their best, and better vintages can live and continue developing for decades longer. (263660-92)

Penfolds `Bin 407` Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 (4x 750ml), . Cork closure.

Lot No: 0009-2473649

The availability of increased volumes of high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit gave Penfolds the opportunity to develop a wine inspired by Bin 707, but at a more affordable price. Launched in 1993 with the 1990 vintage, Bin 407 is true to Penfolds’ multi-region, multi-vineyard blending policy. It is textbook Cabernet Sauvignon, showing strong varietal character and medium weight with ripe fruit at centre stage. French and American oak, usually one in four barrels new, is there in support.
