D'Arenberg `The Dead Arm` Shiraz 2000 (2x 750ml), . Cork closure.

Lot No: 0001-2474105

Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata which randomly affects vineyards all over the world. Often vines affected are severely pruned or replanted. One half, or an ‘arm’ of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side, while low yielding, display amazing intensity.Although our Dead Arm affected Shiraz blocks are considered by the local grapegrowers and winemakers as having 'one foot in the grave' these truncated, gap toothed old vines have been producing small bunches of highly flavoured grapes since the late 19th Century. Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz 1998 (2 x 750mL), Coonawarra, SA.

Lot No: 0074-2473900

Since 1952 this wine has long upheld Wynns Coonawarra Estate’s reputation as a producer of premium Coonawarra Shiraz. Typically, the Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz has aromas reminiscent of ground black pepper, mulberry and raspberry, through to blackberry at the riper end of the spectrum. Oak is used to mature and increase the wine’s complexity, without dominating its distinctive cool-climate character. A medium bodied wine with a lengthy finish that will age gracefully in the tradition of the original Wynns Hermitage. (263439-38)

Rockford `Basket Press` Shiraz 2007 (2x 750ml), Barossa Valley, Cork

Robert O’Callaghan is the very modest owner and winemaker of Rockford Wines in the Barossa Valley. One of the most respected boutique wineries in Australia, Rockford produces the Basket Press Shiraz (first vintage 1984) and the Black Shiraz, a sparkling red that is almost black in colour. In the l970s when wineries were updating their equipment, Robert bought and restored buildings from the 1850's and old winemaking machinery so that he could make his wines using both traditional winemaking techniques and equipment - his only concession to the latter half of the twentieth century is refrigeration and some new forms of yeast. The Shiraz fruit is sourced from local growers – many of the best dry-grown old vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa – including around Kalimna, Ebenezer, the Eden Valley and Central Barossa. The vines are between 60 and 136 years old giving fruit of tremendous colour, power and richness.
