Penfolds Grange `Bin 95` 2014 (1 x 750mL). AUS

The original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy, Grange is arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Crafted utilising fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and structured Shiraz grapes, the result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world’s great wines. With an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951, Grange clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia.Grange was recently recognised as a First Growth in Liv-ex’s recreation of the Bordeaux 1855 classification.

Penfolds `Bin 707` Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (1 x 750mL), SA.

Bin 707 perfectly reflects the Penfolds ‘House Style’ through a cabernet sauvignon lens: intensely-flavoured fruit; completion of fermentation and maturation in new oak; expressing a Penfolds understanding of multi-vineyard, multi-region fruit sourcing. Bin 707 was first vintaged in 1964.Full-bodied and with proven cellaring potential, Bin 707 retains a secure place among the ranks of Australia’s finest cabernets.“Penfolds ‘Grange of cabernet’. Again. Arguably not classically cabernet, certainly classic 707.”“Needs time to unravel – much more to be revealed. As it reluctantly unfurls we’re now cognisant that it’s barely the start of this wine’s journey..”“Sadly, nowadays ever so much harder to find on shelf. Make more? If only …”.“Decanting mandatory. Decanter optional. Timing critical.”- Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

Peter Lehmann `Stonewell` Shiraz 1998 (1 x 750mL), Barossa Valley, SA.

Lot No: 0061-2473900

When Peter Lehmann started making wine in 1980, he only made one Shiraz. Over following years, he noted the consistently high quality of local vineyards but a select few were producing exceptional fruit, more intense, muscular, and deeper in colour. Those special grapes, nicknamed “little black jewels” by Peter and Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan, were set aside for special treatment and crafted into the finest wine of vintage. They called it Stonewell after the district they believed showed the characters most admired in Barossa Shiraz. The pedigree of these vineyards and the knowledge that has been passed from each grape growing generation to the next assures us that Stonewell Shiraz is a wine of great longevity that can be cellared with confidence for many years to come. The ‘little black jewels’ represent only a small fraction of Barossa Shiraz produced by Peter Lehmann, a quantity that is dictated entirely by the quality of each vintage. (264020-24)

Chateau Cantenac Brown 3er Grand Cru Margaux 1979 (1x 750ml),Bordeaux. cork

Lot No: 0014-2473900

hâteau Cantenac-Brown is a wine producer located in Margaux, on the left bank of the Gironde river in Bordeaux. It was established in the early 19th Century and was classified as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc and Graves. Like most left-bank Bordeaux wines, Cantenac-Brown is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vineyard is planted on gravelly soils shot through with white stones, which help to reflect the sun's warmth onto the grapes, helping ripening. The grand vin comes from vines that are on average 35 years old, and yields are kept in check by the viticulture team. Every couple of months during the growing season, the grapes are checked bunch by bunch to ensure everything is progressing as it should. The grapes for the grand vin are hand-harvested and are vinified plot-by-plot in stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels before the wine is aged in mostly new French oak for up to 15 months.Château Cantenac-Brown also make a second wine, Brio de Cantenac-Brown, from younger vines on the estate, and a dry white wine, Alto de Cantenac-Brown, which is made from a Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon blend. Penfolds `Bin 95` Grange Hermitage 1972 (1 x 738mL) SA.

Lot No: 0004-2473900

The 1972 Penfolds Grange is a blend of 90 per cent Shiraz and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine won a gold and four other medals at Australian wine shows in 1973, 1976 and 1977. Another outstanding vintage for Grange. From humble beginnings in the 1950s, Grange has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over five decades. Today, it is a wine of international renown, with each vintage eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.Penfolds Grange is a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. Richly textured, intensely concentrated and packed with fruit sweetness, these wines, regardless of vintage, require medium to long-term cellaring. They develop into immensely complex, beguiling wines that seduce the senses. An Australian icon, Grange represents a tradition in winemaking that is totally uncompromising. Grange has bypassed the fads and trends of modern winemaking in the sense that it has maintained an integrity of style and remained true to its origins in the mind of Max Schubert. Penfolds Grange is the quality standard against which all other Australian red wines are judged. To share a mature Grange, 15 to 20 years old, in fine condition, is one of the great wine experiences. Rockford `Basket Press` Shiraz 2012 (1 x 1.5L Magnum), Barossa Valley. Cork

Robert O’Callaghan is the very modest owner and winemaker of Rockford Wines in the Barossa Valley. One of the most respected boutique wineries in Australia, Rockford produces the Basket Press Shiraz (first vintage 1984) and the Black Shiraz, a sparkling red that is almost black in colour. In the l970s when wineries were updating their equipment, Robert bought and restored buildings from the 1850's and old winemaking machinery so that he could make his wines using both traditional winemaking techniques and equipment - his only concession to the latter half of the twentieth century is refrigeration and some new forms of yeast. The Shiraz fruit is sourced from local growers – many of the best dry-grown old vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa – including around Kalimna, Ebenezer, the Eden Valley and Central Barossa. The vines are between 60 and 136 years old giving fruit of tremendous colour, power and richness."

Dutschke `St Jakobi` Shiraz 2004 (1 x 1.5L Magnum), Barossa, SA.

Lot No: 0004-2473893

In 1934 my Grandfather, Oscar Semmler purchased a vineyard and grazing property across the road from where he and his brothers grew up. This property is located on the southern side of Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley, along side of the “St. Jakobi” Lutheran church and school. It is in the St Jakobi Church where my great grandparents, grandparents, parents and Brenda and myself have all been married. The grapes for our “St. Jakobi” Shiraz come from a small 5-acre (32 rows) planting of vines planted in 1975 by Ken Semmler (Oscar’s son & my uncle) on this family property. We’ve been blessed by having this patch of vineyard in a region that consistently produces good quality fruit year after year. The Shiraz from this special planting typically gives us wines that are rich in spice, dark cherry and chocolate characters with fullness and wonderful structure for longevity in the bottle.
