St Clementin Réserve Benoit XII Châteauneuf du Pape 2015 (3x 750mL), Rhone

Lot No: 0046-2477048

In the XIVe century Pope Jean XXII, chose Chateauneuf as the location for their summer residences, and then decided to plant vines on the stony land which surrounded their landholdings. For a long time the wine production remained a secret but started to become well known in the XVIIIe century but it was in 1929, that it was officially recognized and bestowed with it's own appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This appellation means that the wine production in Chateauneuf du Pape is subject to strict controls to ensure that the 55 vineyards produce an extremely fine wine.Located between Avignon and Orange, Chateauneuf-du-Pape spreads out at the foot of the remains of it's fortress castle.. The village looks over the plain of Comtat and the 3 000 hectares of vine fields. The village is almost completely dedicated to its world famous wine "Chateauneuf du Pape" which is also part of the similarly famous Cotes du Rhone. (263345-13)

d`Arenberg `Dead Arm` Shiraz 2002 (3x 750ml), McLaren Vale. Cork

Lot No: 0016-2476226

One of the oldest continuously family-owned wineries in McLaren Vale, d'Arenberg celebrated 100 years in 2012. Their flagship wine, The Dead Arm Shiraz, has been made since 1993, from vines with the famed 'Dead Arm' disease, which reduces yield but increases concentration and flavour. The wine is mostly dry-grown, on poor soil, from a vineyard planted in 1912. The grapes are basket-pressed in order to avoid over-extraction, and fermented in small open fermenters, before maturing in a mix of new and old American and French oak for close to two years. All this results in a smooth, deep wine, with an approachable softness in its youth and significant cellaring potential. (265820-40)

Yalumba `FDR 880 Family Reserve` Shiraz 1992 (3x 750ml), . Cork closure.

Lot No: 0095-2476226

1994 was one of those vintages that clearly demonstrated that virtually anywhere in Australia, where you restrict the yields and increase the concentration of flavour - great wine will follow. The 1994 Yalumba Family Reserve Shiraz is a superb, complex shiraz, which carefully uses charred American oak as its backbone, but not its structure. Deep crimson colour with mauve edges. The nose is uplifted, immediate and very appealing.Blackberry aromas, spice and charry vanillin oak create a complex beginning. The palate is full bodied, loaded with ripe blackberry flavours with hints of liquorice and ripe plum and blackpeppers, enhanced by the presence of a smoky oak backbone. Firm, fine tannin structure and long spiced charred oak and plum aftertaste. (265007-80)

d'Arenberg `Dead Arm` Shiraz 2001 (3x 750ml), McLaren Vale. Cork closure.

Lot No: 0019-2476226

Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. Often vines affected are severely pruned or replanted. One half, or an ‘arm’ of the vine is slowly reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side, while low yielding, display amazing intensity. (265820-16)

d’Arenberg `The Dead Arm` Shiraz 2000 (3 x 750mL), McLaren Vale, SA.

Lot No: 0018-2476226

The Dead Arm gets its name from the disease which afflicts some of the oldest vines at d’Arenberg, from which we get the majority of fruit destined for the dead arm. The disease in effect slowly reduces one of the two `arms` of the vines to dead wood, which then means the other arm of the vine produces small volumes of the most incredibly concentrated and highly flavoured grapes.
