Winemaking

- Selected batches of Shiraz fruit were crushed and co-fermented with Viognier. Following fermentation on skins for five to seven days, the ferments were membrane pressed and matured inFrench oak before blending and bottling. The resulting wine has excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity. Vintage - A mild spring followed by a classic warm and dry summer lead to outstanding quality across all varieties in Vintage 2018. These mild and dry conditions, whilst shaping exceptional fruit, saw a slight reduction in volume crushed than in previous years. Maxwell `Little Demon` Shiraz Grenache 2016 (12 x 750mL), McLaren Vale, SA.

In 1871 Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell proposed a thought experiment, that involved a hypothetical creature acting as a gatekeeper between two compartments to sort air molecules according to their speed. At first glance, such a system could potentially create energy from nothing… theoretically impossible given the laws of physics. This hypothetical gatekeeper became known to physicists as Maxwell’s Little Demon, and has stirred debate in the science community for more than a century.

Les Celliers de Champsbilloux IGP Bouches de Rhone NV (6 x 750mL)

Lot No: 0025-2477952

Bouches-du-Rhone

is the IGP title for wines made in the administrative department of the same name on the southern coast of France. Bouches-du-Rhone lies within the Provence wine region, and is also home to the more-famous AOC regions Coteaux Aix-en-Provence and Les Baux de Provence. Because of the AOC’s restrictive laws and fierce loyalty to the traditional grape varieties, many of the IGP wines – which are made from a wider pool of grape varieties – are considered among the department’s best. The boundaries of Bouches-du-Rhone are mostly geographical: the Durance river delimits the north, while the Rhone river (flowing south from the Rhone Valley wine region) makes up a portion of the western border. A swampy wetland area known as the Carmargue lies in the very southwestern corner of the department, on the western side of the river. The Mediterranean makes up the southern border. The combination of climate and geography makes Bouches-du-Rhone well suited to viticulture and grapes have been grown here for thousands of years. While there is an array of different landscapes, from rocky limestone hills to vast plains, soils tend to be poor, free draining, and made up of anything from limestone clay to gravel and sandstone. A lack of water in the soils leads vines to produce more concentrated grapes, leading to more concentrated, flavourful wines. (263811-16)

Tyrrells Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet 2017 (6 x 750mL) Hunter Valley, NSW
Tyrrells Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet 2017 (6 x 750mL) Hunter Valley, NSW

Vineyard

This wine is a blend of premium Hunter Valley shiraz and cabernet grapes grown on and around the Tyrrell Ashmans property. Vintage Conditions The 2017 Shiraz Cabernet vintage was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in Winter and Spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when it was harvested. Winemaker’s Notes After fermentation in the traditional open vats, both parcels were matured separately before blending in December 2017. The blended wine then finished it’s maturation in French oak barriques until bottling in May 2018.

Rolf Binder `Heinrich` SMG 2014 (12 x 750mL), Barossa, SA.

The ‘Heinrich’ is a tribute wine to Rolf and Christa’s father, Rolf Heinrich Binder as he loved to work with these three great Barossa varietals – Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache. Rolf continues that legacy with this classic blend and rates it as one of his favourite wines to make. It’s more common to see a GSM blend in the Barossa, but Rolf believes that Shiraz is our best asset, so why not lead with your best? The blend ratio is typically in the range of 50/30/20.This is an estate wine with the Shiraz and Mataro grapes grown in the Stephanie vineyard, adjacent to the winery. The Grenache is sourced from the estate vineyard on the Western Ridge at Gomersal, planted in the early 1950s as well as some Grenache from the Binder Deans Light Pass vineyard.

Hay Shed Hill Shiraz Tempranillo 2017 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River, WA

The Hay Shed Hill vineyard is located in the Willyabrup Valley, the premier sub-region of the Margaret River Wine region. Only 5 Km from the Indian Ocean with an elevated aspect, the vineyard thus enjoys the benefit of the 'doctor' the well-known sea breeze that comes off the ocean each afternoon and cools down the vineyard giving the fruit a much cooler climate character than the latitude of the vineyard might suggest. The vineyard is hilly with several aspects ranging from steep south facing slopes on which the best Chardonnay is located, to equally steep north facing slopes where the best Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys the full face of the sun. The majority of the vineyard is dry grown producing small yields of outstanding fruit.

Primo Estate Il Briccone Shiraz Sangiovese 2018 (12 x 750mL) McLaren Vale
Primo Estate Il Briccone Shiraz Sangiovese 2018 (12 x 750mL) McLaren Vale

Vineyard

Our Angel Gully Vineyard in the McLaren Vale sub region of Clarendon is 300 meters above sea levels making it McLaren Vale’s highest vineyard. Rocky and steep with predominantly shale stone soil, the altitude ensures slow, even ripening with depth and texture. Our McMurtrie Road vineyard on the valley floor enjoys cooling sea breezes and warm days, giving full fruit flavours and spicy notes. Vintage Hot and dry conditions through Summer resulted in a very short, condensed vintage characterised by excellent fruit quality and a reduced yield. Winemaking The fruit was crushed directly into traditional open-topped fermenters then manually pumped-over. Open-toppedfermentation is at the heart of Primo Estate’s red wine style. Joe says: ‘The soul of a red wine is release where air meets the fermenting skins’. Il Briccone Il Briccone means ‘the rogue’ and with this blend of Shiraz and Sangiovese winemaker Joe Grilli combines everything he loves about Australian wine in an unconventional Italian style blend.
