Seresin Estate Chardonnay 2016 (12 x 750mL), Marlborough, NZ.
Seresin Estate Chardonnay 2016 (12 x 750mL), Marlborough, NZ.

The warm slopes of our Raupo vineyard in the Omaka Valley are home to some of our most important Chardonnay vineyards, where the vines respond well to the combination of cool clay soils and the exposure to the sun.Vintage:The 2016 winegrowing vintage at Seresin Estate will be remembered for a challenging cold start with a spectacular long summer. A very long and constant frost fighting season ensured the team were under pressure from the start. Towards the end of January we were predicting a later harvest than normal, but an intense long summer followed by a dry harvest period enabled us to deliver the fruit on-time, intact and without stress. The harvest itself was fast and furious, one of the most compact we have ever experienced.

Vavasour Chardonnay 2017 (6 x 750mL), Marlborough, NZ.

It's not just the grinding winds from the west or the imposing presence of Tapuae-O-Uenuku, the towering peak that looms over Marlborough's Awatere Valley. It's not just the deep, rocky soils formed millions of years ago by relentless glaciers that molded the landscape. It's not just the arid climate marked by sundrenched days and cold nights. It's the combination of all those things together that shape the inimitable character, flavours and textures of Vavasour wines.

Portions of this wine were aged on oak for 8 months. This wine went through partial MLF fermentation on yeast lees. Fined using milk products< b> Vintage Conditions

The 2015 season started drier than usual with typically good temperatures from December through to February. Around 16th to 18th March the edge of a tropical cyclone made its presence felt and about 50mm of rain fell in Hawke’s Bay. Immediately after the rain, some very cool southerly winds dried the vineyards out perfectly. The next three weeks saw almost no rain and ripening continued well. Cool dry weather followed right up until the end of harvest on the 24th April. Harvest began with Chardonnay around mid-March and the fruit benefited greatly from another two weeks on the vine.

J. Moreau & Fils Petit Chablis 2017 (12 x 750mL), France.

Though traces of a village dating back to the Neolithic period have been found, the true origins of Chablis go back to Roman times. Its name is said to have come from the Latin term “caplum”, meaning “ford”. Vines flourished here in the 3rd century, after having been rehabilitated by the emperor Probus. The Serein river, which played an important role in regulating the climate, also allowed wines from Chablis to be transported to Auxerre and Paris. From the capital, they were shipped abroad, to Flanders and England in particular. However, the vineyards owe their real blossoming to the Cistercian movement as the Abbey of Pontigny was just nearby. Phylloxera ravaged the vineyards in the late 19th century, which explains the recent planting of the Chardonnay grape variety. Since 1970, the vineyards have been undergoing spectacular expansion as mixed farming is being abandoned in favour of viticulture. The vines are also resisting spring frosts more effectively.

Martinborough Home Block Chardonnay 2015 (6 x 750mL) Martinborough

Lot No: 0021-2475774

The fruit was carefully sorted in the vineyard during hand harvesting and then whole-bunch pressed. The juice was pressed and left to settle for only a couple of hours before being fermented entirely in French oak barrels. Only indigenous yeasts were used in the fermentation process. The oak was carefully chosen for elegance tocomplement the fine structure of the wine. Aged in barrels on lees for twelve months, this wine underwent 67% malolactic fermentation and regular wintertime lees stirring before bottling. The 2015 growing season featured a mild winter, warm spring and sunny December. This consistent warm weather coupled with very few cold nights meant frost was uncommon. The favourable weather conditions led to harvest arriving two weeks early and the vines producing some of the best fruit the region has ever seen.Chardonnay vines are some of our oldest plantings on the Martinborough Terrace. The region has a cool, maritime climate, low annual rainfall, windy springs and a long warm ripening period through autumn. All this results in a naturally low-vigour site which regulates crops ensuring consistently ripe, high quality grapes are harvested. (253470-1)

Church Road Chardonnay 2017 (6 x 750mL), Hawke's Bay, NZ.

“First made in 1990, Church Road Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay remains our most popular wine. Predominantly grown in cooler appellations around Hawke’s Bay, Chardonnay in these vineyards retains vibrant fruit flavours and gentle, balanced acidity. Barrel fermentation and aging on yeast lees overlays toasty brioche, roasted hazelnut notes and hints of smoke while also filling out the palate and bringing an element of creaminess. The result is a flavoursome, complex Chardonnay that is unashamedly just a little bit old school.”

Champagne Lallier Millesime Grand Cru 2010 (6 x 750mL) Champagne

Lot No: 0016-2475971

The 2010 wine campaign is calm and under water stress until August 15th. After a cold winter (rare frosts) and a dry spring, the soil has been subjected to hydric stress. MidJune, the flowering takes place. Summer temperatures set up early July. In midAugust, exceptional rains disturb the beginning of the veraison but supply the soil with water. Nevertheless, the vegetative cycle is favourable and is followed by a good ripening. Botrytis comes to settle on black grape varieties. We need to sort the berries of pinot noir that have been affected by rot. The chardonnay is slightly impacted by a microbial contamination, and we must not wait too long before picking it, but fortunately we are not affected in our vineyard of the Côte des Blancs. The harvest finally takes place from September 18th to 28th. At the end, it is the House work during the vegetative and harvest cycle that rewards us. And the year 2010 gave us a beautiful vintage!
