Winemaking

The fruit was harvested at night from premium Marlborough vineyards and gently pressed. The juices was then cold settled and cool fermented with yeast strains selected to enhance the natural varietal aromas. Following fermentation the wine was left to sit on lees before blending and bottling to build texture. Vintage he 2017/18 growing season in Marlborough was characterised by a warmer than average January followed by the wettest February on record. Despite th unusual ripening conditions the fruit maintained its natural acidity and achieved flavour ripeness at low baume, resulting in less alcoholic wines with great structure and flavour. Marlborough is renowned as one of the world’s top regions for sauvignon blanc. The Ten Sisters vineyard is in the Southern Valleys subregion, known for its tropical fruit characteristics. The Southern Valleys are closer to the mountains, creating a cooler climate that leads to later ripening and more vibrant flavors. The soil of the Southern Valleys is primarily loess, or fine windblown soil derived from glacial deposits, and has more clay than other subregions. After being pressed to tank, then left to settle and clear, the juice was racked and inoculated with selected yeast strains known to enhance desirable varietal characteristics. The wine remained on yeast lees for two months, before racking to fine lees for another two months. (266741-1)

This refreshing wine expresses herbal notes with fruit that is ripe but vibrant, with green apples, green pears and grapefruit, white peach, hints of green chillies and more exotic touches such as passion fruit. The mouth begins sharp and fresh and then develops good volume with excellent richness for the variety. The mineral column gives the structure, helped by a vibrant and juicy acidity with flavours that are nevertheless fruity and complex. The finish is pure and vibrant with white and tropical fruits enhanced by floral and mineral accents.Vineyard: Tamaya Vineyard, Limarí Valley – Chile Age of the Vineyard: Planted in 1997 (four years grafted)Time of Harvest: Last two weeks of FebruaryAltitude: 240 metres above sea levelHarvest Method: Handpicked into 12kg containers from specially prepared blocksWinemaking: The grapes were hand picked between the first week of February, especially soon this year, coming from special prepared blocks.
