Overview

Rich and complex, with black fruits dominating the mid palate. Dark chocolate and earthy spices are complimented by fine grain tannins. Ethereal and elegant, with beautiful balance and structure - hallmarks of a classic cool climate Shiraz. 2015 was an exceptional year. A classic Yarra Valley growing season: a wet spring followed by moderate daily temperatures and cool nights. Perfectly balanced vines allowed the grapes to ripen in optimal conditions. In these reserve years, the pristine fruit flavours combined with intensity and power give the wine balance and longevity.

Deep purple/red colour, with a very complex and alluring bouquet of meaty spicy cool-grown shiraz and toasty smoky oak embellishment. Real elegance here. A gorgeous wine with seductive, slinky texture and spadefuls of deliciousness. The viognier is discreet. Outstanding shiraz.

Rating 97 JAMES HALLIDAY HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

It’s stonkingly good. From the dark purple hue, the excellent fruit – an array of plum flavours, perfectly seasoned with pepper, cinnamon and oak spice – to the killer tannins encompassing restrained power. Seriously good wine.

Red Five Star Winery - Australian Wine Companion 2014

The historic Yering Station (or at least the portion of the property on which the cellar door sales and vineyard are established) was purchased by the Rathbone family in 1996 and is also the site of the Yarrabank joint venture with French Champagne house Devaux (see separate entry). A spectacular and very large winery has been erected, handling the Yarrabank sparkling wines and the Yering Station table wines. It immediately became one of the focal points of the Yarra Valley, particularly as the historic Chateau Yering, where luxury accommodation and fine dining are available, is next door. Yering Stations own restaurant is open every day for lunch, providing the best lunchtime cuisine in the Valley. In 2008 Tom Carson moved on and was replaced by William (Willy) Lunn, a graduate of Adelaide University with more than 24 years cool climate winemaking experience around the world, including at Petaluma, Shaw + Smith and Argyle Winery (Oregon). Exports to all major markets.
