Overview

Arguably our most popular wine, all the Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc fruit is sourced from cool climate vineyards in the South West of Western Australia. Close to a 50:50 blend, the Sauvignon Blanc provides the fresh herbaceousness while the Semillon provides the lemony flavours and the good palate weight. Harvesting at night, fermenting at cool temperatures and bottling early ensures we retain maximum fruit flavour and vibrancy in this wine.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR: Bright and clear with a light, lemony green colour.

AROMA: Is lightly pungent with some tropical fruit aromas and a gentle herbaceousness.

PALATE: Our SSB is a fresh and fruity dry white with clean, citrusy flavours and that good palate weight from the Semillon. It has light lemongrass characters with hints of kaffir lime and is delicately grassy. Delicious now, this is best enjoyed as a young wine.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, West Cape Howe is the most southerly point, rising some 250 metres above the Southern Ocean. It is thought that the first explorers to this coastline were Dutch seafarers in 1627 aboard their 'Fluyt' class vessel "Gulden Zeepaard" (Golden Seahorse).

The winery is named after this magnificent landmark to pay respect not only to the natural beauty of the region, but also in recognition of the extreme influence of the Southern Ocean on the area's viticulture. The rugged coastline is home to some stunning white beaches, sheltered coves and great rock climbing sites.

West Cape Howe Wines is owned by a partnership including Gavin Berry (until 2004, senior winemaker at Plantaganet), and viticulturist, Rob Quenby. It was founded in 1997 and soon became one of the fastest growing wine brands in Western Australia, now producing around 60,000 cases annually. Over time, it has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state, giving it unrivalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.

West Cape Howe's driving philosophy is to make delicious wines of harmony, balance, structure and flavour - wines that people love to drink.
