This wine is a blend of premium Hunter Valley shiraz and cabernet grapes grown on and around the Tyrrell Ashmans property.

Vintage Conditions

The 2017 Shiraz Cabernet vintage was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in Winter and Spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when it was harvested.

Winemaker’s Notes

After fermentation in the traditional open vats, both parcels were matured separately before blending in December 2017. The blended wine then finished it’s maturation in French oak barriques until bottling in May 2018.

Winery Tasting Notes

A modern style of Australian red that also respects the tradition of varietal blending to make a more rounded wine. The wine shows intense plum fruit sweetness from the shiraz with dark berry and chocolate characters. The 5% cabernet component adds to the length and fullness of the wine.

English immigrant Edward Tyrrell established Tyrrell's Wines in 1858 in the lee of the Hunter Valley's Brokenback Range, New South Wales. This land has become recognised as home to some of the Hunter Valley regions finest vineyards, and the basis for development of one of Australia's most successful privately owned wine companies.

Today, Tyrrell's are a truly national wine company, premium vineyards extend from their legendary home in the Hunter Valley to other distinguished grape growing regions of Australia including McLaren Vale in South Australia and Heathcote in Victoria.

Fourth generation family member and Managing Director, Bruce Tyrrell heads this winemaking company that boasts well established, popular and highly recognisable wine brands that are exported to over 30 countries worldwide. His children, the fifth generation of the Tyrrell family, are involved in the family business, illustrating that this iconic Hunter Valley winery will continue to be Australian owned well into the future.

Tyrrell's Wines was awarded Winery Of The Year by James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2010.
