Scotts Creek wine range is produced by Byrne & Smith Wines.
Byrne & Smith have one of Australia's largest family owned vineyard estates, with over 520 hectares in wine growing regions including Clare Valley and Riverland, South Australia.
In 1960 Romla & Eric Byrne first purchased the property Devlin's Pound near Waikerie, in the Riverland, South Australia. Here began the passion for brothers Rob and Terry Byrne with vineyards and viticulture. The first vines were planted on this site in 1965. Although originally working as a Chartered Engineer, it is the wine industry that has become the passion for Director Rob Byrne. Fellow Director Terry Byrne is a Roseworthy graduate and has been involved in vineyard ownership and management for over 30 years. Their philosophy is to grow quality fruit, whilst conserving our precious natural resources.
With a family history of three generations in the South Australian wine and horticultural industry, Byrne & Smith Wines is committed to maintaining environmental sustainability.
Scotts Creek vineyard is located just outside the historical township of Morgan in the Riverland, South Australia. Established in 1974, under the direction of Australian Wine Industry pioneer Max Schubert, the site was selected for its stony soils over a limestone base, producing wines with immense character and complexity. The historic vineyard overlooks the Scotts Creek Wetlands.
Not afraid to get her hands dirty, conservationist and grape grower Elise Byrne has passion, determination, and above all, a love of the environment. She explains... "Our group works to make a difference, thereby encouraging others to this national cause. Imagine the whole stretch of river, wetlands and floodplains managed and revitalised. Our group is doing it and so are others. The whole river system can be alive again!"
The future vision of Scotts Creek Wetlands is to continue to retain its prominent status by maintaining the biodiversity of its fauna and flora, in particular the endangered Growling Grass Frog (alias Southern Bell Frog).
