“I was ecstatic when offered a small crop of Montepulciano from an Eden Valley grower in 2012 as it gave me an opportunity to work with a different varietal for the first time. Even more happy with this second release!” ~ Rolf Binder

A grape with its roots in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy, it may seem a bit wild and crazy to see a Rolf Binder Montepulciano in a bottle! Fortunately we have access to grapes from a long standing Eden Valley grower, who has grafted some old Riesling vines to this lovely varietal.

Expert Reviews

Rating 93 - Jane Faulkner Published 01 August 2018

The exuberant dark purple colour of this Italian variety kick starts the enjoyment factor of what is a juicy wine. Fragrant with spiced black cherries, licorice, earth and boot polish; a bundle of satisfying flavours glide across the full-bodied palate before meeting up with supple, savoury tannins.

Winery Tasting Notes

Bright ruby/purple colour with cherry, blackberry fruit and pepper on the nose.

A light to medium bodied style that makes a perfect food match to pizza and tomato based dishes. The palate shows hints of tar, chocolate, plum and spice with a firm, dry finish.

Drink now or enjoy this wine over the next 2-3 years.
