Overview

« 2009 was incomparable in terms of quality and produced consistent, fresh, crunchy grapes. The wines are more Burgundian in character in hot years and are characterized by a gentle freshness and a pure expression of their terroir. »

— Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master

A continental, sunny year with a real winter that was very cold and dry followed by a glorious sun-filled summer and almost no rain in August and September. All this meant traditional vine growth, excellent health and remarkable grape ripeness for the production of dense, fruity and delicious wines. 2009 is an obvious addition to the select group of brilliant and accomplished Champagne vintages with a light, sunny character

Winery Tasting Notes

Yellow in colour with glints of light amber. Discreet and extremely fine bubbles.

Intense bouquet combining sweet flowers (honeysuckle, broom), yellow fruits (peach) and lightly roasted dried

nuts (hazelnut). Evolves towards spicy and citrus notes with a hint of Sancho pepper as well as soft, sweet,

ripe notes of chestnut cream.

Ample and light on entry to the palate. Ample, thanks to its sweet, creamy, almost spherical texture that seductively wraps around the mouth, coating the palate; light, due to its elegant, saline freshness that «stretches» the wine giving it a smooth, delicate and airy mouthfeel. You will not fail to be charmed by its juicy aromas of sun-drenched fruit that gently caress the palate. An elegant bitterness combined with zesty, spicy and delicate oaky notes linger on the finish.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Champagne Louis Roederer, founded in 1776, remains one of the very rare family Champagne businesses. For two centuries, six succeeding generations have been inspired by the same concern for quality. Frederic Rouzaud took up the reins in early 2006 from his father Jean-Claude Rouzaud who remains Chairman of the Board. Jean-Claude, grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and himself a trained Oenologist had led the company for 38 years, and is referred to as the 'Sage' of Champagne (the wise man of Champagne).

Frederic has spent the past 10 years working with his father in all areas of production and business and will bring his great business acumen and academic background to the company. Louis Roederer is unique in Champagne owning two-thirds of the vineyards for their total production covering the Pinot Noir sub regions of "Montagne de Reims" and "Vallee de la Marne" with Chardonnay from the "Cotes des Blanc". By 1995, recent acquisitions had increased Louis Roederer's holding from 180 hectares to almost 190 hectares, ranking 97.5% on the official classification scale.
