Overview

A specific area of vines on The Nepean Block was selected for this wine. Historically we have found this area has produced some amazing flayour profiles, all MV6 clone. We started the growing season with a light fertilzing and the natural rainfall was adequate. The vines had been cane pruned to 18 buds and trained to an open VSP canopy. no watering was necessary this season. A light summer pruning maintained the open canopy and bunch counts restricted to one bunch per shoot. The grapes were hand-picked relatively early on 4th March.

Winery Tasting Notes

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Very intense and precise pinot noir here with violet-like florals, sappy fresh forest aromas, musk, raspberry and spice – very taut and youthful, the oak is tucked in deep. The palate has superb richness and intensity, really ripples with red fruit flavour and finely layered tannins – the structure is impeccable, really reminiscent of the Burgundian repertoire of power with elegance. Long cherry fruit flavour and a lively cherry pip finish.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Frewer family established Jones Road vineyard in 1997 at Somerville on The Mornington Peninsula overlooking Westernport Bay. The maritime climate of this region produces some of Australia's best cool climate wines because of the late ripening, the fertile soil and careful vineyard management.

Since those early days we have secured lease on 2 other vineyards here on The Peninsula. One on the Port Phillip side, close to the water and the other at Balnarring near the Westernport Bay. This has increased our vineyards to 60 acres. With these extra parcels of fruit it gives the winemakers an opportunity to blend from the different sites, mixing different terroirs.

Matt, the vineyard manager has gained recognition for his attention to detail and care of his vines. This has lead to other vineyards requesting his advice and operational skills. He is now caring for another six vineyards on The Peninsula.
