The fruit for this wine was picked on flower or fruit days according to the biodynamic calendar. 50% of the wine was fermented in barrel (with 12% new French oak) for 6 months, to help build texture into the wine. The use of multiple yeast strains helped build complexity.

'It’s pretty young and slightly doughy, but has juiciness of Margaret River Chardonnay, with some restraint, almost a passionfruit and herb thing going on. Some flinty feel, and an almost pithy bitterness on the finish, which gives it a nice little tightening up. It’s a good drink. Drink 2018 to 2023

'Classic regional Chardonnay, stone fruit a-plenty here with some oak derived spice bringing up the rear. There’s not as much definition on the palate as the Estate offering, yet the wine does not want for more stone fruit and spiced hints. It’s crisp and clip, the partial barrel fermentation adding a level of detail and welcome complexity to what is otherwise an approachable fruit driven style.'

Winery Tasting Notes

This is a beautiful example of a contemporary Chardonnay showing lovely floral notes of jasmine and fruit characters of peach, nectarine, pear and melon. Flint, ginger/spice and smokey, toasty vanilla notes are derived from the barrel fermentation and ageing. The palate is bursting with fruit flavour and fleshy peach texture while the balanced acidity brings oyster shell and mineral qualities. This is a Chardonnay for drinking and enjoying now and over the next five years

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. No sub-region has been historically more important in the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.


Mark Messenger has been the Winemaker at Juniper Estate since 1998. He has responsibility for production of all Juniper wines and is supported by an experienced team in the winery and the vineyard. Mark was Assistant Winemaker at Cape Mentelle, in Margaret River, from 1990 to 1998. Mark’s experience lies in producing premium Margaret River wines, using the best quality grapes, oak and other materials, and that is his mission at Juniper Estate.
