Fruit was machine harvested at night when coolest and transferred to the winery to be immediately destemmed and crushed into the press, thus preserving freshness. The must was gently pressed to tank with a careful press cut made separating free run and pressings. The wine was settled and the clear juice racked to tank for a cool fermentation with an inoculated yeast strain. The wine was fermented to complete dryness, then rack from its lees and blended before fining, stabilisation and early bottling to preserve freshness.

Aromatics and Palate

Aromatic nose, white blossoms and a variety of citrus. Lemon zest, lemon curd, preserved lemon, ripe pink grapefruit and crisp green apple fruits balance well with acidity that is present but not obtrusive. Quartz like minerality adds drive and freshness to the perfectly judged phenollyc texture and subsequent elegance of this wine.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. In 1968 in a stroke of serendipity English migrant Tony Smith, himself a descendent of the Plantagenet's, invested his small inheritance in a farm called Bouverie in Western Australia’s Plantagenet Shire.

He first planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Riesling three years later.

The first wines from these young vines were tight and lean and showed the elegant spice and fruit characters for which this area was to become known.
