Sourced predominately from our HVD vineyard with the remaining fruit coming from our Short Flat and 4 & 8 Acres vineyards.

Vintage Conditions

The 2017 vintage in the Hunter Valley was one of the best in recent memory, producing wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in Winter and Spring meant the vines had constant access to water, and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition when it was harvested.

Winemaker’s Notes

A mixture of both hand and machine harvesting, with the hand component forming the percentage of whole bunch fermentation we required. In this instance it was 20%. The machine picked fruit was placed on top of these whole bunches. The ferments were gently pumped over three times daily before gentle pressing and maturation for 9 months in French Oak barriques, 5% new.

Winery Tasting Notes

Bright crimson cherry red in colour. Strawberry and raspberry fruit combined with savoury, graphite-like notes, subtle French oak and hints of grape stalk enhance the bouquet and add complexity. Medium bodied palate. Red cherry, strawberry and stalk spice combine with nuances of oak displaying a classic Hunter Pinot; all about texture and silkiness.

His children, the fifth generation of the Tyrrell family, are involved in the family business, illustrating that this iconic Hunter Valley winery will continue to be Australian owned well into the future.
