Overview

The grapes were sourced from Heathcote, a dry central Victorian climate with cool nights and warm days which make this region one of the best sites for growing shiraz in Australia. The fruit was picked in the cool of the night and processed without crushing the berries, this reduces the extraction of overt tannin in favour of more fruit freshness and vibrancy.

Maturation has been in older French oak barriques for 12 months this softened the wine without adding oak flavour. 2016 was a dry warm early ripening year in Heathcote and produced ripe dark fruit with strong fresh natural balance.

Winery Tasting Notes

Beyond Broke Road Heathcote Shiraz is a bright fresh example of varietal and regional character, it has a core of dark plum, mulberry and chocolate balanced by fresh subtle pepper spice and flinty mineral notes. The palate has the soft rich feel of a full bodied shiraz but with a fresh red fruit line that helps keep the wine lively and supple.

English immigrant Edward Tyrrell established Tyrrell's Wines in 1858 in the lee of the Hunter Valley's Brokenback Range, New South Wales. This land has become recognised as home to some of the Hunter Valley regions finest vineyards, and the basis for development of one of Australia's most successful privately owned wine companies.

Today, Tyrrell's are a truly national wine company, premium vineyards extend from their legendary home in the Hunter Valley to other distinguished grape growing regions of Australia including McLaren Vale in South Australia and Heathcote in Victoria.

Fourth generation family member and Managing Director, Bruce Tyrrell heads this winemaking company that boasts well established, popular and highly recognisable wine brands that are exported to over 30 countries worldwide. His children, the fifth generation of the Tyrrell family, are involved in the family business, illustrating that this iconic Hunter Valley winery will continue to be Australian owned well into the future.

Tyrrell's Wines was awarded Winery Of The Year by James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2010.
