Overview

The grapes where harvested during the cool of the night to ensure quality was maintained. A cool fermentation took place in static fermenters and gentle extraction of colour and flavour was achieved over a two week period. After primary ferment the wine was gently pressed off skins to a mix of new and older larger format French oak barrels. After 12 months maturation in barrel the wine was blended prior to bottling.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday 2016 - 95 Points

Matured for 12 months in French oak, it has a scented allspice and Cherry Ripe bouquet, moving smartly to blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice on the medium to full-bodied palate; it's fruit-driven, but there's still room for a wave from the oak, and a salute from the tannins.

Winery Tasting Notes

This wine is made with fruit from the Frankland River Region of Western Australia, which produces wine with great richness of flavour. A lovely perfumed bouquet of blackberry and spicy cherry. The palate is luscious with mulberry, plum and hints of black pepper, supported by soft subtle tannins. Aged in French oak for twelve months, this wine will benefit from cellaring.

Also sold under our export Ironstone Shiraz label.

At Amelia Park Wines, we produce fine wines from one of Western Australia's most renowned winemaking regions, Margaret River. We combine leading edge techniques with traditional winemaking values and practices. Winemaker Jeremy Gordon believes that success starts with the vine, and he works closely with a select group of premium vineyards to achieve superior and consistent fruit quality. The resulting wines are elegant, fruit-driven varietals, complex in structure yet easily and irresistibly enjoyable.

Jeremy Gordon is a partner and our highly decorated winemaker whose success lies in a hands-on approach to every step of the process, attention to detail and an unquenchable passion for making consistently outstanding wines. This philosophy has seen Jeremy receive numerous awards throughout his career including Australia's most coveted award, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy. Since launching Amelia Park in 2009, with his wife Daniela and business partner Peter Walsh, Jeremy has won multiple trophies at high caliber wine shows including the International Wine Competition, Decanter World Wine Awards, Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition, National Wine Show of Australia, Margaret River Wine Show, Perth Royal Wine Show and the Winewise Championships. Amelia Park was again awarded 5 Red Stars in the latest edition of James Halliday's Wine Companion. This award confirms Amelia Park on the list of the Best Wineries in the Margaret River Region and in the top 5% of wineries in Australia.
