At Helen’s Hill, we are firmly of the belief that the Yarra Valley provides us as vignerons with the perfect ‘terroir’ to produce the best Chardonnay’s in Australia. The cool nights in summer maintain the acids, the hot days provide the intense fruit characteristics that all great chardonnays display. There is a planting of Chardonnay vines on our vineyard that thrive above all others in these areas. We call it Breachley.

The Breachley Block of vines sits perched above the home of co-owners Andrew and Robyn McIntosh. Planted in 1983, these vines provide an aged character to the fruit that simply cannot be replicated within younger vines. The result? Chardonnay with equal measures of intense stone fruit and peach characters, balanced with the perfect acid and French oak mouthfeel.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Truly great wine results from a partnership between the land and the people who nurture it. At Helen’s Hill Estate our 100% family owned vineyard and winery carefully balances traditional values and modern efficiencies to make exceptional cool climate wines.

Our vineyard and wine making philosophy is quite simple: The land and the fruit are in charge – we do all the labor. We are situated off Ingram Rd (not hard to figure out how we came up with the name for one of our ranges of wine) which runs along the southern ranges of the renowned Yarra Valley and we took our name from the late previous owner.

Comprising 150 acres (110 under vine) the vineyard includes 140 seat restaurant (with some of the finest views of the scenic Yarra Valley), Cellar Door, extensive lawn bushland area for our festivals (or just lazing the day away) and state of the art winery.

We take the preservation of our environment very seriously and rely entirely on what falls out of the sky to irrigate our vines. We re-use all restaurant and cellar door waste waters and re-use all winery waste water. In the vineyard we rely heavily on nature and have promoted the growth of certain types of plants. The benefits are two fold; provide a source of natural fertilization to the land as well as attracting certain insects to take care of unwanted pests. Through this process of selective plantings in the mid rows we have dramatically reduce our reliance on fertilizers and sprays.
