Overview

Makers’ Project is a range that celebrates expertise and innovation in wine. It builds on Wolfgang Blass’s original vision to create wines that taste great – wines people want to drink. These are wines our winemakers love to make, wines that highlight innovative quirks and winemaking processes that make them not only tasty, but fresh, original and exciting.

Makers’ Project Pinot Noir was pressed from its skins early, before the end of fermentation. This technique results in a smooth, silky drop with a soft texture that’s decadent and rich in flavour, and bursting with berry fruit characters.

Award Winning Winery

Wolf Blass Wines has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world's most successful and awarded wineries.

Wolf Blass was created in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

In researching the name Bilyara, Wolf learned it was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk" and given the eagle was also the national emblem of Germany, he decided his wines would carry the Eagle - a legacy that continues today and into the future.

Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies with Black Label, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

From this time onwards, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning a grand total of more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.

Wolf Blass Wines have a tradition of quality, character and consistency from the refined and elite Platinum Label, and the majestic and complex Black Label through to delicate Rieslings and crisp Chardonnays.

Winemakers

Wolf Blass winemakers are an award winning winemaking team, continuously striving for the ultimate in excellence, character and integrity. The Wolf Blass wine style has always been a unique and highly distinguishable one. Our winemaking teams strong focus on careful fruit sourcing, fermentation, maturation and blending results in lifted vibrant fruit flavours, a soft, rounded palate and well integrated tannins that are the hallmarks of the total Wolf Blass range.

Chief Winemaker Chris Hatcher is widely considered to be one of Australia's leading winemakers and respected wine show judges. A wonderful ambassador for the wines of Wolf Blass and Australia, Chris Hatcher's legacy to Australian winemaking is already monumental.

"The sum of all parts should still be a better result than the quality of each individual part, otherwise why blend at all" - Chris Hatcher Chief Winemaker.
