In 1876, our pioneering founder, Thomas Hardy purchased our Tintara winery in McLaren Vale, in order to expand his already successful winemaking business.

His vision and passion for winemaking meant that the Tintara name was soon synonymous with outstanding Australian winemaking, as was the region of McLaren Vale. Today our Tintara wines remain a testament to Thomas' quality winemaking, combining age-old methods with new-age techniques.

Winery Tasting Notes

Intense varietal cassis, blackcurrants, bay leaf and black olive with lifted oak spice and dusted milk chocolate. Vibrant with the red-fruit characters present on the nose carrying through to the palate which is under-pinned by a firm yet juicy structure. A dark and brooding wine with great length and finely balanced tannins typical of this variety.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Tintara is a winery of two worlds. A living treasure house of tradition on one hand, a testimony to new age winemaking on the other.

The winery is set in McLaren Vale, a town on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. Nestled between the Gulf of St Vincent and the Mt Lofty Ranges. The result is distinctly Mediterranean.

Established in 1861, Tintara was a pioneer in taking McLaren wines to the world. Today Tintara’s winemaking acknowledges the past and is inspired, producing wines of great regional character and individuality.
