Expert Reviews

Estate grown, 100% mlf, 9 months in older barriques. A restrained aspect to this release, and a savoury and textural style, as you'd expect at 12.7%. Ripe enough in character given the warm vintage, but (presumably) early picking has kept the wine fresh, and the time in oak has imparted mouthfeel and secondary flavours to complement the lighter fruit weight. Rating: 92/100 James Halliday Wine Companion 2019 August 2018

Toasty and fine, De Bortoli's 2016 The Estate Vineyard Chardonnay features classic hints of hazelnuts and white peaches. It's medium-bodied, with a plump, creamy texture and a long citrusy finish. It's a stellar effort. Rating: 91. Joe Czerwinski The Wine Advocate June 2018

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale straw with a green edge. Bright, considered, florals, citrus, nutty. Fine, minerally, textural, drying phenolics, energy and drive.

The wine will continue to develop complexity and interest with good cellaring for 5-10 years.

Brand Profile Image

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
