Chateau Petrus 1982 (1 x 750mL), Pomerol, Bordeaux, France.

Lot No: 0009-2468290

Although not rated believed, like all the wines of Pomerol Petrus is the most famous but also the most prestigious of all wines. The legend begins in the late 19th century. The Arnaud family owns the domain, and Petrus already enjoys a fame that never falter thereafter. Edmonde Loubat gradually redeems this family shares the Château Petrus Civil Society from 1925. She became sole owner in 1945. Dynamic and conscious of the exceptional potential of this "small" vineyard (about 6ha - currently 11.5 ha after buying a plot at Château Gazin), it is an ideal complement in 1947 in the person of Jean-Pierre Moueix, Libourne merchant from a family Corrèze. This duo with outstanding business skills will hoist the field towards the peaks early 1950s known in France but especially recognized abroad, Petrus and adorns Elizabeth II engagement table. In the 1960s, President Kennedy particularly appreciate and indirectly made a reference to the US market. The soil of Petrus, located on the highest point of the appellation (40 meters) enjoys an excellent situation. The soil, mostly clay, is particularly favorable for the Merlot, which constitutes 96% of the vine of the vineyard. The remaining 4% are planted with Cabernet Franc, most of which is not found in the great wine. The harvest is manual and breeding lasts 20 months (100% new oak). Petrus: The low acidity makes it a soft wine, which, combined with the voluptuous character of Merlot, develops a wine an incredible concentration. It reveals just majestic, with a power and an incomparable richness, some vintages that can keep more than fifty years.Country / region / Bordeaux Appellation / PomerolColor /RedOwner * / SC du Château PetrusArea * / 11.4 haProduction * / 36000 bottlesGrape varieties * / 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet FrancViticulture / Conventional (249374-21)

Penfolds `Block 42` Kalmina Cabernet Sauvignon 1996 (1 x 750mL), SA.

Lot No: 0069-2468289

Planted around 1888, Block 42 is located at the edge of the Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley and is home to Cabernet Sauvignon vines of ancient genetic origins.

The 10-acre Block 42 comprises what are believed to be the oldest plantings of continuously producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world. For over 120 vintages these vines have produced flavour-intense, mineral-rich fruit with exceptional concentration and balance.Providing ‘lift and structure’, Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon was blended into many early bottlings of Penfolds Grange. The Block 42 vineyard continues to be an important component of Bin 707, providing backbone and substance to the overall style. There have only been a handful of releases across the decades due to the low-yielding nature of the Block 42 site. The most recent was made from the 2004 vintage and was sold en primeur - Penfolds was the first Australian winery to use this selling method made famous by the chateaux of Bordeaux. With a bit of luck, ideal weather conditions, the right parcels of fruit and when the fruit is not required for Bin 707, Block 42 will continue to be periodically released – potentially more than once in a decade. Lot No: 0053-2468289

Another Penfolds classic. Another blend of Barossa (Kalimna) Shiraz and Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Made by John Duval. I’ve had it since but below is my note from the 2007 Penfolds Rewards of Patience tastings. This is the 1990 red wine Penfolds had to have. It inspires a beautiful set of numbers in your mouth. It’s got mint but it sits in the background, and because of that it’s better than any other 1990 Penfolds red by, to my taste and preference, a long degree. Fresh, savoury, developing steadily, correctly and well. Classic wine. Liquorice and blackcurrant and tobacco-herbs. This is a wine and a half. Great crack of tannin and dark berried flavour. Dimension.Rating 98 - Drink to 2030 Cambpbell Mattinson, Wine Front 25 September 2013. (257656-87)

Rusden `Boundaries` Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (6 x 750mL), Barossa, SA.

Lot No: 0083-2468289

The Barossa Valley is one of the warmest and most consistent wine regions in Australia. Growing Cabernet Sauvignon is generally considered a cool climate affair, but I love the aggressive nature of the variety, being quick growing, vigorous and hearty. Grown on the deep sand around the boundaries of our property, it is forced to push its roots down to the subsoil red clay from where it generates the largest canopies in our vineyard. In the heat of summer, the fruit is shielded from the sun which preserves the vegetative, herbaceous character of Cabernet along with generosity and richness synonymous with the Barossa climate. Penfolds `Bin 389` Cabernet Shiraz 1999 (3 x 750mL), SA. Cork closure.A tightly structured wine with generous fruit character matured for 13 months in American oak casks including those that held the previous vintage of Penfolds Grange.ColourDeep brick red.AromaMeaty and savoury aromas intermesh with cinnamon and anise over a base of generous, sweet berried fruits, complemented by wafts of freshly stewed plum and beetroot. Subtle oak - barely discernable and at one with the wine.PalateFull-bodied with trademark sweet mid-palate ‘evolved’ fruits - concentrated cherry liqueur and brandied fruits - fused with dark, bittersweet chocolate. Grainy tannins, well managed oak and a lovely balance complete the structural impression.Wine BackgroundCreated by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange - Bin 389 is often referred to as ‘poor man’s Grange’ (‘baby Grange’ in the U.S.) because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous year’s Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that built Penfolds’ solid reputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds’ skill in balancing fruit and oak. A classic Australian style with a clear Penfolds identity. Langton’s Classified: ExcellentTop Vintage

Created by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange - Bin 389 is often referred to as 'Poor Man's Grange' or 'Baby Grange', in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange.First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds solid reputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds skill in balancing fruit and oak. A classic Australian style with a clear Penfolds identity - the 2006 vintage of Penfolds Bin 389 has a red star rating in the Penfolds Rewards of Patience, Sixth edition.Red stars are awarded to those wines that are considered to be an exceptional vintage.
