Lot No: 0020-2473900

The Hickinbotham family are instrumental players in Australian wine history, and Alan Hickinbotham bought this estate in 1960.Clarendon Hills sources wines from this stately vineyard to produce a single site Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and old-vine Grenache – all detailed by the Hickinbotham family name.Richly compact soils provide depth and a vineyard unique signature across the varietal spectrumHighly elevated in the sub district of Clarendon - the vines ripen later than most and develop individuality as a resultDry grown vines planted in 1960 are hand picked thereby culturing whole berry, wild yeast fermentation. This increases the retention of the grape’s varietal essence and minimises bitter tannin extract. All pressings are returned to the barrel and bottled onsite without fining or filtration. Penfolds `Bin 95` Grange Hermitage 1972 (1 x 738mL) SA.

Lot No: 0004-2473900

The 1972 Penfolds Grange is a blend of 90 per cent Shiraz and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine won a gold and four other medals at Australian wine shows in 1973, 1976 and 1977. Another outstanding vintage for Grange. From humble beginnings in the 1950s, Grange has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over five decades. Today, it is a wine of international renown, with each vintage eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.Penfolds Grange is a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. Richly textured, intensely concentrated and packed with fruit sweetness, these wines, regardless of vintage, require medium to long-term cellaring. They develop into immensely complex, beguiling wines that seduce the senses. An Australian icon, Grange represents a tradition in winemaking that is totally uncompromising. Grange has bypassed the fads and trends of modern winemaking in the sense that it has maintained an integrity of style and remained true to its origins in the mind of Max Schubert. Penfolds Grange is the quality standard against which all other Australian red wines are judged. To share a mature Grange, 15 to 20 years old, in fine condition, is one of the great wine experiences. Penfolds `Bin 389` Cabernet Shiraz 2002 (3 x 750mL) SA.

Lot No: 0006-2473900

Langton’s Classified: ExcellentTop Vintage

Created by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange - Bin 389 is often referred to as ‘Poor Man’s Grange’ or ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds’ solid reputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of cabernet with the richness of shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds’ skill in balancing fruit and oak. A classic Australian style with a clear Penfolds identity.
