Penfolds `St Henri` Shiraz 2001 (1 x 1.5L Magnum), SA.

Lot No: 0009-2476422

Langton’s Classified: ExcellentTop Vintage

Penfolds St. Henri is a counterpoint to Penfolds Grange. St. Henri is a highly successful, alternative expression of Shiraz. It is unusual among high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on new oak. It was created in the mid-1950s (first commercial vintage 1957) and gained a new lease of life in the 1990s as its quality and distinctive style became better understood.Penfolds St. Henri is rich and plush when young and gains soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1460-litre vats that allow the wine to develop, but imparting no oak character. The focal point for St. Henri is Shiraz.Vintage ConditionsThe 2001 Penfolds St. Henri already shows greatpotential and is possibly the best since 1998! The source regions for this wine experienced good winter rain, setting the season off well for spring vine development. Exceptional heat in January extended through the late summer months until rain brought relief in most regions in mid-March. Penfolds access to well managed vineyards across the country enabled a careful selection of premium quality blend (264796-44)

Langton’s Classified: ExcellentTop Vintage

Created by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange - Bin 389 is often referred to as 'Poor Man's Grange' or 'Baby Grange', in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange.First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds solid reputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds skill in balancing fruit and oak. A classic Australian style with a clear Penfolds identity - the 2006 vintage of Penfolds Bin 389 has a red star rating in the Penfolds Rewards of Patience, Sixth edition.Red stars are awarded to those wines that are considered to be an exceptional vintage. Penfolds `Bin 389` Cab Shirax 2008 (1x 1.5 L), Barossa Valley. Boxed

Lot No: 0011-2476422

A welcome wet winter and a moderate, dry spring encourage steady early season growth, setting up for a text- book harvest. Cool and dry conditions during the start of summer were describe as perfect, conducive to excellent flavour, colour and phenolic development. A record 15 day heatwave, starting on the 3rd March created a major interruption, inducing a vintage of two distinct halves - a statement pertaining to the profound differences in quality of fruit picked before and after the heat spell. Weighted- average vintage charts may not do justice to the South Australian harvest in 2008. Penfolds reds will. (265820-56)

Penfolds `ST Henri` shiraz 2008 (1x 1.5L Magnum), SA . cork closure.

Lot No: 0010-2476422

St Henri is a time-honoured and alternative expression of Shiraz, and an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. It is unusual among high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on any new oak. It was created in the early 1950s (first commercial vintage 1957) and gained a new lease of life in the 1990s as its quality and distinctive style became better understood. Proudly, a wine style that hasn’t succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1460 litre vats that allow the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of Cabernet is sometimes used to improve structure, the focal point for St Henri remains Shiraz. (264796-47)
