Expert Reviews

Similarly dark and dense to its sister wine from 1999 (Terra Rossa First Growth); powerful blackberry and blackcurrant fruit with savoury aspects on the bouquet leads into a well-balanced and constructed palate, with luscious blackberry fruit supported by clever oak and tannin management. - James Halliday

Winery Tasting Notes

Parker `First Growth` Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

Very deep almost opaque black colour. Aroma of cedar, spice, blackcurrant, cigar box and violets, with just a hint of marzipan on the end. The palate is tightly structured, set for medium term cellaring. Flavours of blackcurrant, spice and cedar, supported by fine firmish dry tannins, with a hint of dark chocolate emerging on the back palate. Excellent balance. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, spice and cedar.

Parker `First Growth` Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

This is an elegant style - beautifully made, with spice and blackcurrant palate flavours dominant. Fine grained tannins and excellent length with long cedar, blackcurrant and a hint of tea leaf aftertaste

Parker `First Growth` Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

The 1998 vintage could only be described as outstanding. Superb weather conditions during both the growing and ripening seasons have produced fruit of classic quality.

The 1998 First Growth exhibits aromas that prepare you for the power of its flavour. The bouquet is a complex mixture of ripe wild berries combined with quite spicy and aromatic oak. The oak is all new and French.

The palate has great concentration of flavour with the structure allowing the many different layers of fruit to emerge in harmony.

Parker `First Growth` Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Very deep almost opaque black crimson colour with deep brick red hue. Top notes of spice, blackcurrant, white pepper, cedar and truffle. On the palate layers of mint, spice, leather, dark chocolate and mocha create a complex palate flavour profile. Velvet tannins. Aftertaste of dark chocolate, leather and spice.

Winery Profile

Parker Coonawarra Estate is situated in Coonawarra, in the centre of South Australia's Limestone Coast Wine Region.

Parker Coonawarra Estate has achieved an unmatched reputation both within Australia and overseas where fine wines are revered for integrity and consistently superb quality.

Commercial constraints played no part in the development of Parker Coonawarra Estate. John Parker, whose many years involvement in the wine industry resulted in a desire to produce a premium wine from Australia's premier red wine district culminated with the release of the 1988 "Terra Rossa First Growth" in 1991.

The Parker Estate Vineyard, situated at the Southern end of Coonawarra, was established in 1985 on the rich Terra Rossa soil over limestone of Coonawarra and carries Cabernet Sauvignon as the predominant variety with minor plantings of Merlot and Petit Verdot.
