Rifle Range, which was in the hills at the back of Krondorf for nearly a hundred years is now covered in vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon from the surrounding vineyards a glass of traditional, rich, soft Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon is still being raised

Most people would be unaware that Cabernet Sauvignon has been planted in the Barossa since at least 1888. Barossa Cabernets are rich, full flavoured wines and are a perfect fit into the Rockford stable. The fruit for this wine comes predominantly from vineyards along Rifle Range Road. The ‘Biscay’ soil of these vineyards is heavy clay, lending the wine its full flavour and earthy tones. The perfect wine to hide in your cellar, for as long as you are able.

Expert Reviews

Winery Tasting Notes

Sumptuously and deeply ripened, but with the brightness and vivaciousness that derives from a later season such as 2015, this mouthfilling and supple wine delivers luscious cassis, dark plum, and mulberry flavour backed by chocolatey, cedary oak and a fine, pliant spine of loose-knit tannins. It’s smooth and approachable, but will certainly develop in the bottle. Drink 2023-2027+

Medals & Trophies

93 Points Robert Parker - I adored the 2015 Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon, which shows a purity of fruit rarely seen in Cabernet. Saturated mint and cassis aromas and flavors allow just hints of oak to peek through. It's full-bodied and structured to age a decade or more but silky enough to drink now, with a long, smooth finish.

Winery Profile

Rockford - The wines are sold through Adelaide retailers only (and the cellar doo) and are unknown to most eastern Australian wine-drinkers, which is a great pity because these are some of the most individual, spectacularly flavoured wines made in the Barossa today, with an emphasis on old, low-yielding dryland vineyards.
