Review – 40 year Tasting by Winestate

“Attractive anise and cassis notes greet the nose, a very ‘together’ aroma showing great underlying complexity. This wine is rich and concentrated but without a heavy, cloying mouthfeel. The tightly structured palate shows excellent balance and tannin finesse. Still a baby.” 4 Stars. Winestate - “40 years of The Signature” March/April 2004.

“Strong red; an excellently rich and complex bouquet with blackberry, chocolate and earth supported by harmonious and sweet oak, and a substantial, chewy palate with an identical range of flavours. Will reach a peak somewhere over the next four or five years, but will hold that peak almost indefinitely.” 88 Points. Drink 2010 James Halliday, Wine Companion. Date Tasted Jan 98.

Winery Tasting Notes

Beginning with the 1962 vintage, The Signature wines of Yalumba have saluted the very best of the vintage. They also have acknowledged the skills and dedicated service of people who have enhanced the traditions and culture of Yalumba.

The Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blend is a distinctively Australian style, and The Signature has set the benchmark for this iconic style, drawing heavily on Yalumba's great Barossa resource of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vineyards.

The Signature 1994 - Peter Graue

It’s difficult to believe ‘Henry’ Graue has been working at Yalumba for 32 years. He’s youthful-looking and personable, with sparkling eyes and a quick, friendly smile. Henry joined Yalumba’s services department as an apprentice electrician on 6 December 1965, immediately after leaving school. It is a testament to his work ethic and determination that today as the services manager of Yalumba he solves the myriad problems and challenges posed by an industry that demands innovation and ingenuity.
