Wynns Shiraz 1994 (3 x 750mL), Coonawarra, SA.

Since 1952 this wine has long upheld Wynns Coonawarra Estate’s reputation as a producer of premium Coonawarra Shiraz. Typically, the Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz has aromas reminiscent of ground black pepper, mulberry and raspberry, through to blackberry at the riper end of the spectrum. Oak is used to mature and increase the wine’s complexity, without dominating its distinctive cool-climate character. A medium bodied wine with a lengthy finish that will age gracefully in the tradition of the original Wynns Hermitage.

Expert Reviews

Medium to full red-purple, bright and clear; the bouquet shows an array of spicy black cherry fruit aromas with oak barely perceptible. A strongly fruit-driven wine in the mouth, with intense earthy/spicy dark cherry fruit; the oak has been used as a medium for maturation and not as a flavour modifier. Less opulently ripe than some of the prior vintages, but none the worse for that. Rating 90 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/1996).

Delicious ground black pepper and raspberry fruit with just a hint of vanilla-like oak will see the 1994 Shiraz maintain this label's pedigree of quality.

The palate is supple and full flavoured with spiciness and mulberry characters at the forefront.
