The 2004 Shiraz was sourced from 40- to 60-year-old vines. The wine spent 30 months in French and American oak, 30% new. Opaque purple-colored, it exhibits aromas of toasty oak, spice box, saddle leather, licorice, blueberry, and chocolate. Sleek and racy on the palate in spite of its ample size, the flavors reveal succulent blue fruit and chocolate, and a long, savory finish. Give it 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it through 2024.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aged for 30 months in 20% new French oak, 10% new American oak and the remainder in seasoned French oak, this is a great example of Barossa Shiraz. The heavily-laden nose combines black forest cake, cherries and olives with blackcurrant and tobacco, lifted by spices reminiscent of an Argentine BBQ. Vibrant fruit dominates the palate, balanced by subtle French oak into a deeply complex wine – long, rounded and silky smooth, yet deeply complex in flavor. Drinking well in its youth, it will develop over time and reward the patient.
