Penfolds `Bin 389` Cabernet Shiraz 1996 (1 x 1.5L Magnum), SA.

Provenance: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Bin 389 is a very traditional Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz and today it is truly a multi regional blend drawing from as many as seven different regions depending on the vintage. Although quite different to Grange it is unmistakably Penfolds in style, with fleshy, ripe fruit flavours and chary oak.

Expert Reviews

"Medium to full red-purple; a dense wine on the bouquet with layers of earth, chocolate, berry and oak. Wonderfully sweet blackberry fruit is offset with sweet chocolate, and rounded off with sweet tannins and oak on the finish mark an exceptionally good Bin 389."

Winery Tasting Notes

Rewards of Patience 6th edition, 2008

Colour

Deep red.

Aroma

Fresh, expressive wine with all the hallmarks of a 'Baby Grange'; lovely inky blackberry, meaty, cedar, graphite aromas.

Palate

Dense, rich, generous, sweet-fruit flavours, underlying malt oak and slinky, chocolaty tannins. This is a great vintage with incredible fruit power and energy.
