Penfolds `Bin 407` Cabernet Sauvignon 1996 (2 x 750mL) SA.

Provenance: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Launched with the 1990 vintage the Bin 407 reflects Penfolds’ aim to produce a premium Cabernet that is at once more affordable and more widely available than the Bin 707. This has been made possible as more premium Cabernet vineyards have come into bearing.

The resulting style of wine has proven to be quite different from Bin 707. Bin 407 shows more varietal characters of blackcurrant, mint, leafy overtones and subtle oak.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep brick red.

Aroma

Archetypal Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of ripe blackcurrant jam with hints of cranberry. Subtle underlying oak, supported by French and American oak, combined with lifted, opulent fruit aromas.

Palate

Full-bodied, balanced berried fruit combines with anise, eucalyptus and a hint of tar. Chewy tannins complement the muscular fruit yielding an unctuous texture and mouth feel with a silky finish.
