Lakes Folly Cabernets 2010 (2x 750ml)

Australia's first boutique winery, Lake's Folly was established by Dr Max Lake and his family in 1963. Still family-owned, Peter Fogarty and his winemaker, Rodney Kempe, continue to maintain the quality and integrity of this significant vineyard.

Only two wines are made - a Cabernet blend and a Chardonnay - in limited quantities. All are grown, vintaged and bottled on the Estate. The wine styles are restrained and elegant, showing finesse and complexity. They have clarity of structure and greath length of flavour.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aromas of dark fruits - black cherry and blackberry with hints of charred oak and coffee.

Palate

Palate is deceptive in that it is elegant but has definite underlying power. Recent tastings have proven this wine improves after being opened up for a day or even longer, which confirms my thoughts that it will open up into something special in a few years' time and have great longevity as usual.

Winemaker's Comment

Well, another year has rolled by and it's once again time for our much anticipated annual wine release. Since the drought-breaking rains of 2008, La Nina has been firmly entrenched across Australia and we've had extremely good soil moisture level content, thanks to regular rains at just the right times. Whilst we experienced some late rain in the 2010 vintage, the 2011 vintage (which was a disaster for most other Australian wine districts) was a sensationally dry period for the Hunter. These favourable conditions have meant that the vineyard has responded beautifully and is in fantastic condition.
