Monowai `Winemaker's Selection` Pinot Noir 2016 (12 x 750mL), Hawke's Bay.

This specially selected blend was crafted from fruit harvested from low-yielding vines at optimum ripeness, gently crushed and chilled for a pre-fermentation cold soak to extract colour and fruit flavour, then warmed, inoculated with selected yeast and fermented over 7 days to dryness with a daily routine of traditional plunging to maximise tannin extraction. After pressing, the wine was matured for 18 months in predominantly French oak barrels.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aromas of ripe plum and dark berry fruits are complimented with a hint of spice and earthiness.

Palate

Smooth tannins support the flavours of dark cherry and spicy plum with hints of spice and brambles adding a layer of complexity. A delicate balance of acidity and tannin make this a wine which will age gracefully

Cellaring

This is a very approachable wine for drinking today but with enough structure and richness to develop with ageing

Food Matching

This intense Pinot Noir is a great match for venison steaks or roast duck.
