I rediscovered the nobility and stunning complexity of Merlot almost by accident when I came across this single vineyard high in the Barossa ranges near Mount Crawford. The climate is extremely cool and late ripening, allowing the fruit to develop multi-dimensional flavour and sophistication. Great Merlot is being snapped up by a new wave of drinkers looking for strength with elegance and finesse.

Colour
The appearance is bright vibrant red with youthful violet hues.
Aroma
Aged in seasoned French oak Hogsheads (300 litre barrels) this Merlot has youthful berry fruit intensity ahead of elegant herbs and spice. There are layers of complexity that will continue to develop with age.
Palate
The opening palate is rich and dense with supple ripe tannins and firm acidity. It has strong berry fruit, fine powdery tannins and long lingering finish. It has great depth of fruit intensity and nice oak complexity. This wine has been unfiltered to maximise the flavour from all the subtle components allowing them to integrate and soften in the traditional “old world” style.
Food Matching
This wine is lovely drinking right now and makes a great match to prime Angus steak and roast beef. It has solid body weight and is smooth and dry on the finish making it ideal with firm vintage cheese and nuts.
Cellaring Potential
This is one of the most exciting new discoveries for me of the last ten years. It’s extremely limited and wonderful drinking already. It will continue to develop for over a decade but it will be hard to resist enjoying it now.
