St Clementin Réserve Benoit XII Châteauneuf du Pape 2015 (3x 750mL), Rhone

In the XIVe century Pope Jean XXII, chose Chateauneuf as the location for their summer residences, and then decided to plant vines on the stony land which surrounded their landholdings. For a long time the wine production remained a secret but started to become well known in the XVIIIe century but it was in 1929, that it was officially recognized and bestowed with it's own appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This appellation means that the wine production in Chateauneuf du Pape is subject to strict controls to ensure that the 55 vineyards produce an extremely fine wine.

Located between Avignon and Orange, Chateauneuf-du-Pape spreads out at the foot of the remains of it's fortress castle..

The village looks over the plain of Comtat and the 3 000 hectares of vine fields. The village is almost completely dedicated to its world famous wine "Chateauneuf du Pape" which is also part of the similarly famous Cotes du Rhone.

Winery Tasting Notes

Tasting Named for Benoit (Benedict) XII, the tireless reformer and third pope of Avignon, Réserve Benoit XII is nurtured in the same Southern Rhône Valley vineyards that surround Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its four neighboring villages. The vineyards feature large siliceous pebble terraces with sandy red clay that will reward cellaring for 5-7 years. Réserve Benoit XII will be best served at temperature 60-65°F if opened one hour before serving with red meat, game, casseroles and cheeses.

Ruby color with purple hints.

Intense bouquet dominated by fresh aromas of red fruits (redcurrants, raspberries) and hints of mild spices and scrubwood.

Well-balanced palate, plenty of red berry fruits with a long, softly tannic finish.

Côtes du Rhône AOC

Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault

Hand harvest. Traditional vinification, long maceration with cap punching and pumping over, temperature control.
