Thompsons Road Semillon 2018 (6 x 750mL) Hunter Valley, NSW

Winemakers Comments - In terms of weather, Hunter Valley vignerons are happy when it doesn’t rain and we certainly haven’t had much in the past 10 months. Therefore, we had a dry lead up and while we have irrigation to keep the vines alive, nothing beats nature’s own. Sugars have stayed low, meaning typical vibrant Semillon with maybe just a lick more colour. Certainly 2003 springs to mind as a very similar vintage and style of wine. All Semillon blocks were picked by the 12th January 2018 and just as well. Staff and vines survived with some wonderful wines the result of diligent vineyard and winery work.

Vinification - Harvesting was all done by hand. The fruit was crushed, chilled and pressed immediately. Neutral yeasts were used for the fermentation and bottled in May. No oak and no malolactic ferment, only stainless steel.

Winery Tasting Notes

Classic Hunter Valley Semillon aromas of talc, citrus rind and notes of orange blossom in the background.

A superb colour with expansive flavours of lime pith supported by zesty citrus acid. This wine has a great balance and finish, and is the perfect accompaniment to fresh seafood, especially oysters.

Food - Asian food, any seafood especially freshly shucked oysters.

Drink - Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
