Lot No: 0014-2449950

The Grays Wine team are always on the lookout for your next wine discovery. Spain is no exception and we thought we’d start with Rioja. The Rioja wine region can be described as 'Spain in a glass'. Rioja is made from Tempranillo grapes or a blend of varieties (with Tempranillo the dominant grape). Tempranillo is known for its structure and tannins. This is a wine perfect for a drinker who loves Cabernet but is also looking for the dominant cherry flavor that’s often present in a wine like Pinot Noir. The Spaniards are very proud of the indigenous Tempranillo grape because they have been making it into wine for over 2,000 years.Transport yourself to Rioja with a glass of these Grays exclusive wines and some lovely thin slices of Jamon Serrano (the Spanish version of Prosciutto) and chunks of Manchego cheese. Yum! Simon – GraysWine BuyerA fine collection of Spanish Red for you to sample with family and friends. This pack comprises of;- Heredad de Baroja Cuvee Especiale 2014 (3 x 750mL) - Heredad de Baroja Crianza 2012 (2 x 750mL)- Heredad De Baroja Gran Reserva 2002 (1 x 750mL) (228562-3)

1 REVIEW

The 2002 vintage was the smallest in ten years as a result of winter drought and cool weather at flowering, and the best wines were produced from old vines able to draw on deep root systems to tap reserves of moisture. In addition, the summer was relatively cool, which added to the acid structure and lent a fresh vibrancy to the fruit. This gran reserva was carefully elaborated using the traditional method of carbon maceration, with entire grapes sealed in a stainless steel deposit where they undergo alcoholic fermentation. The process produces an excellent wine with an intense colour while preserving the grapes’ natural aromatic character. Then aged in American and French oak barrels for 36 months, and then kept in bottles for a minimum of 24 months or until it reaches its optimal maturation.

The Borgo Saletta is a true expression of the whole estate, encompassing a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) Cabernet Franc (20%) and Merlot (10%) from all vineyard sites. The focus is on fine tannins in order to provide more immediate drinkability. The wine is aged for just under a year in oak barrels that have already seen 1-2 years of use for Saletta, which contributes complexity without the greater definition of new oak.Earlier vintages can benefit from a 5-10 year cellaring cycle but can also be enjoyed earlier.

Its name pays tribute to a family tradition spanning several generations, whereby the eldest son is always named Paul or Pierre, alternating each time. Chateau Tour Saint Paul refers to the eldest of two brothers who own the property today. The winery also bears testimony to ancestral tradition, as the grapes are vinified in the original 300- year- old buildings featured on the label.
