Lapostolle `Clos Apalta` 2010 (6 x 750mL), Colchagua, Chile.

A world class blend in the Bordeaux tradition. The earth offers it up and we respect the gift.Apalta is located 170 kilometers south west of Santiago in the Colchagua Valley. The vineyard is situated on a north to south exposure, which is quite rare in Chile. The Tinguiririca river rests on one side and the hills from the coastal Cordillera surround the vineyard like a horseshoe on the other. They are both integral in forming this unique terroir. This geography is responsible for the conditions that ensure balance for our vines and a slow ripening for the grapes. At sunrise and sunset, the Cordillera block the sun’s rays, limiting the vines exposure to intense sunshine and the river has a cooling influence on the climate."When I first came to Apalta it striked me; unique geography, climate and old vines that are not grafted. The potential that lay hidden in this incredible place came to reality with the creation of Clos Apalta.” - Jacques Begarie, Chief Winemaker

Vineyard:

2013 was a year of change and challenge; good winter/spring rains setting up excellent vine canopies followed by spells of heat and rejuvenating cool changes, this allowed the fruit to develop fresh, bright and intense characters, with some exceptional elegance. The steady ripening period made harvest a breeze, with the winemakers able to harvest each parcel at optimal ripeness.Winemaking Each of the three varieties was picked only when they tasted absolutely perfect. Picked in the cool of the night and then crushed and de-stemmed, each parcel was fermented according to taste. Maturation in American oak following pressing, with the assemblage coordinated in late 2013.This is Australian red wine at it’s best; following the traditions of Australia’s winemaking pioneers and mixing together grapes of different varieties across South Australia’s most famous regions to produce synergistic blend.Spicy shiraz from Barossa and the Southern Flinders, juicy fruity Grenache from the best old vines in the Riverland, and dark, rich Petit Verdot from a selected grower on the sunny banks of the Murray River, combine in Dr. Angove’s heady and delicious “Recipe.”v. 2013 (239461-3)

Whistler Wines Barossa Range Hubert Irving Red Blend 2013 (6x750mL) SA

Grape growing has been part of the Pfeiffer family way of life for four generations, beginning with Josh’s great grandfather, Albert Heinrich Pfeiffer, who owned a vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Albert would spend many hours in the vines with his son Hubert, working the vineyard in bare feet with his faithful Clydesdale, Bloss, before harvesting the grapes and selling them to local producers.Hubert Irving Pfeiffer, grandfather to Josh, soon followed in his father’s footsteps moving his family to a vineyard in Loxton. Hubert enjoyed wandering through the vines with his son Martin talking to, and training both the vines and his young pupil, just as his father before him.

Rolling Cabernet Merlot 2014 (12 x 750mL), Central Ranges, AUS

The Cabernet & Merlot parcels are harvested separately as these varieties tend to ripen a few weeks apart. Each variety is picked at optimum ripeness, the Merlot blocks ripening & harvested fi rst, followed by the Cabernet blocks. Following harvest, the fruit is de-stemmed and then warmed whilst loaded into fermenters; this allows the yeast to kick straight into ferment. Fermentation progresses at warm temperatures, with the skins turned over twice daily to assist in colour and fl avour extraction. Once ferment has fi nished, the wine is gently pressed off skins. The wine parcels are then matured on French oak for 9 months before being blended and bottled.
