Zinful is made in a fruit-driven, Primitivo style, similar to the way it is made in its homeland of southern Italy. Part of this process is to age the wine in old oak barrels so as not to obscure the wonderful spice and berry fruit characters. A lovely ‘with food’ style.

Winery Tasting Notes
Clear, bright, rich garnet.
First splash into my glass releases lovely ripe red berry fruit notes. Raspberry, sweet plum. Mmm, here comes the vanilla. A good swirl and I'm in forest berry jam land and there's a fleeting floral note I can't quite put my finger on. Pretty though. Let it sit and I'm marvelling at cinnamon and mixed spice. (I'm feeling pretty chuffed about this wine - so expressive. Feeling quite proud of my husband winemaker too and I'm often his harshest critic!)
The fruit and spice carries through to the palate with some pepper tickling around. Sweet juicy fruit up front, full mouthfeel with some mouth watering acidity. And then, those tannins that we often see in Italian varietals; they have a savoury edge that simply make you want to keep drinking.
I'm thinking this wine would go beautifully with a creamy risotto or pasta. I'm also thinking this is a beautiful wine!
Tasted May 2014 - Now is a great time in this wine's life! Drinking fabulously or age for another couple of years.
