Overview

After making Zonte’s Footstep Rosé for six vintages we named it this year in honour of all the Scarlet Ladybirds in our vineyard that eat other tiny pests, like aphids, and keep our fruit fabulous. The Scarlet Ladybird Rosé is made to our house style, which is seriously fun to drink, deep and dry, and always comes up smelling of roses.

Expert Reviews

Mid-bright pink; a fragrant and focused bouquet of strawberry and red cherry, with a splash of spice; at the dry and crisp end of the rose spectrum, finishing with a refreshing acid and Campari twist. Rating 90 - Drink to 2014 Ben Edwards, Australian Wine Companion (FEB/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Scarlet red. Brilliant see-thru purple-pink indicating what follows.

Aroma

Audacious array of aromatics always coming up roses. Veritable summer pudding of fresh berries, perfume spice dominated by strawberry and Campari-like cherry smells.

Palate

Super fresh and zesty with lip-smacking berry flavours. Medium-bodied, juicy fruited with touch of natural sweetness. Rolling red berry fruits and Satsuma plums with soft spice rounding out a lush mouthful. Flavoursome with fresh acidity and a tiny tweak of soft tannin taming the finish.

Cellaring

Best consumed young, but can mature in bottle up to five years.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Zonte's Footstep is a proudly independent Australian wine company. We take our vineyards and our wine, but not ourselves, seriously.

In 2003 we pooled old white utes and new-ish tractors to grow the best grapes from the best vineyards and the wines are now at the vanguard of a revolution of Australian wine styles.

A couple of wine scribes recently noted; "The critically acclaimed Zonte's Footstep wines are not ‘old world', nor even ‘new world', Zonte's is out of this world!" and "Zonte's Footstep; Jump on board this fabulously priced wine and enjoy one of the best value wines in the Southern Hemisphere." Matthew Jukes

Zonte's Footstep is named after a 19th century Zante currant vineyard, as new plantings follow the original footstep. The currant business dried up, but Zonte's Footstep became our blueprint...

All we want to do is taste our fruit in our wine, so we charged our reigning winemaker, Mr. Ben Riggs, with one goal; to make the best wines we can, true to vineyard and variety, so long as we make a bloody good drink!

“The truth is out there in the vineyard... but the proof is in the bottle”
