Expert Reviews

Deep garnet; as is usually the case with Zema there is a savoury bent to the wine, showing mulberry, briary complexity and a splash of cedar; the palate is medium-bodied, dry and showing plenty of life and energy with an attractive Amaro bitterness to conclude; this is food wine indeed. Rating 93 - Drink by 2020 - Ben Edwards, James Halliday's Australian wine Companion (MAR/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Attractive good medium red colour with a hint of purple

Aroma

Dark ripe varietal mulberry, dark cherry and cassis characters with hints of dark chocolate and crushed autumn leaf.

Palate

The palate displays bold, dark red berry fruit flavours with a hint of regional mint supported by well integrated oak and persistent tannins contributed to by its 14 months in predominantly French oak hogsheads. The texture is ably supported by an attractive acid level.

Food Matching

Rack of lamb, twice cooked duck, beef cheeks

Cellaring Potential

Well structured with outstanding depth of fruit, this wine while drinking well now this wine will continue to gain more complexity with cellaring.
